  • I squirt bleach every day round the rim and it stays nice and clean.

I don't like the thought of a disposable cheapo brush (esp with a toddler who likes to play with Everything), it's just more landfill!

I used to work for a posh interiors place, we used to supply loo brushes for £120

Thanks to all who took the time to reply - especially Caterina for the link. I had done a forums search before starting this thread but hadn't found anything.

  • I never liked toilet brushes, so found the method of using those disposable toilet duck pads, plus the re-usable plastic handle appealing. However...SO expensive. So what I do now is use two pieces of kitchen roll, folded to the same size as the said pad. It fits well in the holder, I then give the loo basin a quick squirt round with bleach, then dip the k-roll pad in the bleachy water in the pan, scrub away, release the k-roll pad and flush. I rinse the end of the holder in the water as the loo flushes and put it back on its little plastic stand. Save myself a fortune.
Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.
  • Hi, does anyone use a toilet brush? I've heard some people say that they are gross but I've always used one. If you don't use one then do you put your hand down the loo to clean it, I can't bear the thought of that even with gloves on.

Hate the things but much better than the alternative. Bulk buy Ikea 39p toilet brush with holder and replace at regular intervals!

  • I can understand while poeple say they're gross, I do use them and flush with the brush still in the toilet after scrubbing so it gets rinsed.
  • I use a toilet brush with a disposable head. The thought of fecal matter and bacteria getting trapped in the bristles of an old-fashioned loo brush and then having that sitting in the bathroom where we clean ourselves is just disgusting to me. http://www.scjohnson.co.uk/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=5859

I often add bleach to the 'holder' part so it sits in bleach afterwards. Also do the flush after use to rinse it!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

I use them but usually only when I am cleaning the loo - I use Cif (well cif type) cream and scrub the bowl and under the rim and rinse the brush in the flush. I wash the holder out and let it the brush and holder dry outside in the sun if I can. I change the brush frequently.
But I also use a bleach block in the cistern.
When I flush the loo I put the lid down and am training the Vallikids to do the same;) The outer rim and outside of the loo are cleaned with a bit of old towel - I keep it under the loo for cleaning the seat etc only and it's washed (a boil or hot (60 degree) wash with the towels
Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY
