NOOOOO
I must be the only woman in the world who insists they leave the seat UP
cos that way you can be sure it was lifted in the first place!!!!!
I have sat in a wet pool on loo seats a few times ICK ICK ICK
At last, the voice of reason! I would rather have to put the seat down myself, than find that someone has widdled all over it.0 -
I never sit on the seat in public loos and like to put it up when i go. I never use my hands to put the lid or seat up, i just kick it up. I keep a few alcohol wipes with me in case i really really need to sit down!!! They are used for medical instruments and kill germs.
What i really hate is seeing people come out of loos and not wash their hands. Ewwww. Just as bad is twickling your fingers under the running water without soap. Does nothing. You need to use soap (not bars - liquid from a dispenser) and rub your hands together for at least 15 - 30 seconds to get rid of the transient bacteria. Its also important to dry your hands, as leaving them wet encourages bacteria growth. (got this info from the infection control nurse)No links in signatures by site rules - Forum Team 20 -
just think of all those germs on the toilet flush handle. makes me want to wash my hands right now. also, i had problems with eldest not washing his hands when he was 4 or 5, took him to a public loo and told him to lick the toilet handle, when he said that'd be horrid i pointed out that was what was on his hands when he didn't wash them, and everytime he sucked his thumb it was the same. never not washed them since.0

Ive never understood how women can trust men who leave the seat down to have lifted it in the first place
lots of them dont . wheras if its still up your on a pretty safe bet its a dry seat
lol0 -
I am a man but I put the seat down because if you do not and then flush the toilet then the germs go everywhere!
It's the same with those bristle toilet brushes - use one of those and it splashes minute particles all over the bathroom and you!
I just put bleach down the loo to clean it. I never have to do anything else to clean inside the bowl - it even removes those stubborn 'stick-ons' and it keeps the limescale at bay!
But if you just use a 'toilet cleaner' you will have to put the gloves on from time to time!
Every now and then I get the steam cleaner out and clean the toilet seat and the carpet around the loo. You will be amazed at the smell of stale urine that produces!0 -
your right, the germs do go everywhere when flush
and its advisable to keep the seat lid down as rats have been known to enter the house this way
carpet round the loo??? extremely unhygenic rip it up and throw some lino down or tiles and seal them round the loo pedastal and sink etc
BUT id still need proff the seat had been lifted in the first place
not here cos Ive trained him but in other places
not nice to sit in a pool of cold wee. !!0 -
I agree that carpet around the loo is not that good an idea. However, my disability means that I am prone to slip. So I have fitted carpet everywhere in the house, including the bathroom and kitchen. I suppose I could fit tiles just around the loo though.
As for proof that the seat had been lifted - is it not possible to get a loo seat where the lid locks onto the seat and which automatically closes the lid when you stand up again? When the lid and seat are locked together it can just be lifted and put down manually.
Do they exist or have I just invented something?0 -
my granddad has anti slip tiles round his loo, they a bit like sandaper to touch, but clean better than carpet.0

On the subject of hand washing in public toilets. Was told by a nurse friend that at major venues, such as concerts etc, due to number of people using taps, it is actually more unhygenic to wash hands than not. (Maybe that is why hospital bugs are rife these days! ???)
With that in mind, I now carry about one of these tubes of antiseptic handwash gels in the old handbag, and you don't even have to dry your hands. I get mine from Avon, but am sure there are others on the market.0
