Hey PP. What I'm trying to do is just save as much as I can - am saving up to get some decorating done in my house. I want to save as much as possible and after everything has been taken out, I'll have £25 to last the month on non-essential spending.

Does this make sense? :p x

Well, sort of. Just trying to work out why it's Old Style :D

  • If you have £25 for non-essential spending and everything else is accounted for, including savings, then don't spend it!

I think the shoe is really on the other foot. I don't think you actually need any motivation as you seem to be doing incredibly well already and should be an inspiration to the rest of us poor unfortunates.

It's not really old style I suppose - it's just that the people on this board are all really cool, friendly and supportive :)

  • The "extra spending" needs to be accounted for. I suggest you each get a little note-book and write down every single penny spent. It's very, very sobering indeed and places a microscope on what is absolutely unavoidable and necessary and what's not.

Thank you :A I'll add this onto the Daily thread, which is where you'll get loads of Old Style support for your challenge :D

    Afternoon All

Welcome EC & any other newbies :hello:

Yes we like this thread to be welcomming, friendly and supportive, and on the whole it is. If you are looking at ways to make cheaper meals, then other threads in OS cover this very well. We do try to say what we are having for meals on here, some of our more inspiring posters seems to be a bit busy following other pursuits, but we do try (I know very trying). It does give you ideas of other things you can do with your basics and if anyones fancies trying them, a quick request always brings the recipe.

Today I am not very inspiring, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes for brekky, Welch Rabbit for lunch, with HM 5 grain wm bread.
Tea tonight willbe something with 2 chicken breast I have in the fridge, just not sure what yet, maybe Chicken Chausser.

Bright and breezy here today so I have a load of washing on the line, forecast similar tomorrow so will try to get another couple of loads done then.. Other than that just playing with the 'van getting it ready for next weekend.

    :grouphug: if you'd like one.

I loathe shopping :( It was far too busy, too hot in the shops and some of the stuff I tried on made me feel awful :o
It's never been something I enjoy at the best of times - I miss being able to go during the week when it's quieter :rotfl:
Anyway I have spent some birthday money, nice fabric handbag for summer, some plain v necked t-shirts, a top and a couple of short sleeved cardigans :D All is not lost I guess. Sounds like I had a better shopping trip than I thought when I see it written down :rotfl:

EC - Welcome and you're right about people on here being lovely :D

Tru - way to go! Got to keep the kids in check :rotfl:

    Good Afternoon all,

Bit late posting today, but weekends are always busy in our house. DGS is with us for an extra night this weekend sp that keeps us all occupied.
He is just waking up from his afternoon nap by the sounds of it.

DH had some very positive feedback from his meeting so hopefully next week will see an offer of some actual work. Also the everyday work seems to have picked up so thats good. DH will probably work through Easter but not too worried about that. You have to do the work when its there.

I have had a bit of an epiphany about work(gosh that's a big word for a Saturday afternoon):rotfl: I have been going backwards and forwards in my mind what to do and I have dreamt about work the last 3 nights. I still haven't had a diagnosis for my illness but whatever they say I am still going to feel about the same. I think what I have decided is to try and go back part time and job share. That way I will still be earning, even though its half my wage, it would better than nothing. Also I feel I am contributing. I am sure my doctor would support me doing reduced hours, its just whether work will. I work for a large college so a big HR department. I am sure they would have to consider it. I don't think my immediate manager would be happy but to be honest its not about him, its about me and my family. I think my job could be done perfectly well like this. There would just need to be a cross over of say an hour on a Wednesday lunch. What do you think?? Do you think I stand a chance of them agreeing??

Sorry for the long post but I do feel easier in my mind having made a decision:D Just will be very scary going back after 4 months:eek::eek::eek:

    Afternoon everyone

Lovey day here, took ds2 and friend to local park, walked all round the woods, both of them were playing star wars with sticks and imagination.Alos managed to complete the maze(best time ever). Managed to get 1 load of washing on line, blowing wildly at the moment. Load 2 in wm.

Lunch was tuna sandwiches. Dinner will be salmon and pasta. Also got a thai chicken curry cooking in SC, smells yummy.

Need to complete wedding invites, all leaflets done with maps & info on so will just need posting. Need to work out how much we have spent hoping to do flowers and cakes myself to save a little money.

EC & kitchenbunny - welcome, this is a lovely place to post.
Bitsy - well done on your shopping trip, I hate going shopping at weekends.
Tru -I like your style,my ds1 thinks he is hard done to paying board currently pays £30 p/w, he still owes me money from last year and has agreed to pay that off at £50 p/m.
Pipkin - hopeyou got some rest and that DD feels better.
Julie - I too work in a college, only part time. I think providing you can show that it will work, they should agree it. You may find you get a little more than half your wages as you would pay less tax I think.

Enjoy the rest of your day, need to continue with the cleaning and sorting, do find it hard to keep motivated though. Hugs to anyone in need. Take Care.

:hello:Hi guys! And welcome to our new posters - oh, and welcome back to Kitchenbunny! I think you posted for a while a few months ago? It was you who gave us the wonderful word "OSiness" :) Nice to "see" you back.

Julie67 I was so pleased to read that your DH's meeting went well, will keep fingers x'd for you! About the jobshare - I seem to remember reading that employers are bound to consider such requests, and if they say no, they have to give a good reason why - but it would strengthen your case if you can also find someone to do the other half of the week! Hopefully he will be amenable anyway rather than lose you altogether.

Donny-gal - Hope you got your water problems sorted! I was a bit confused reading about it at atm your location says "Spain atm" (at least, it did last time I looked) but it finally dawned on me that you are in Yorkshire atm :o

Bitsy - Sorry you didn't enjoy your shopping much, but you seem to have done quite well even so :)

Diva - Hope all's as okay as it can be xx

meanmarie - (((HUGS))) honey, you will miss your DS and he will miss you, but think how much you'll enjoy spoiling him when he gets home for a break! I don't know if you'll see this - I hope you manage to get your internet access sorted soon, so frustrating for you!

topsyturphy - Cleaning and sorting are a pain - but just think how pleased you'll be with the result! I am trying to gradually declutter the table since we've been back from hols, so that it can actually be used for eating at and for sewing, especially as I think I feel well enough to try making some new curtains if I take it slowly and don't try to get them cut out and sewn all in a day (I've got M.E.). I've never made a big pair before, only little ones for my kitchen window.

DH woke quite late this morning, so I walked up to the baker's and paper shop instead of us going in the car, as I really need the exercise (put on weight while away :o) It's not a long walk, about 10 minutes each way though it's uphill (not very steep tho) on the way there. I managed it much more easily than before we went away (it was a real struggle then), so the holiday has done me good :j (I wouldn't like to try doing starjumps yet, but you know what I mean :D

    tru Well done you :D

    Penelope Penguin

csarina - What a pretty bag! Your hostess will love it :) Hope OH's back soon improves!

I'm gradually getting back into cooking again. Dinner today is Pork-and-apple sausages from our butchers, mash and some sort of veg. Tomorrow I think I will make JO chicken tikka masala as it came out so well last time. I don't use his Hm curry paste now though, we didn't like it, so it's back to good old Patak's :D
I've done three loads of washing today, don't know where it all comes from really.

(((HUGS))) to everyone who is ill or coping with ill family members, or is unhappy.
