Thanks for this, fermi.
It sounds like it is just what I'm looking for.0 -
I have remvoed the note about blocking the masthead from the site.
That is an innappropriate use of the site - we use the masthead for messaging sometimes and getting important info across to users. Without it you leave us vulnerable to not being able to communicate and I would ask that you dont do that.
The forum is part of MSE it is not a standalone site.

Sorry Martin, but it doesn't remove that.
The code in question removes just the masthead, not any part where announcements or other messages are placed.
As in just:
However, I only do it as the forum pages are headed with a disproportionately large amount of content that make the forum very awkward and annoying to use for anyone who is using a laptop/display with a limited height. It really does become very very irritating after a while. So while the current forum header design is in place, I will continue to block remove elements that make viewing the forums uncomfortable.

Thanks Fermi and Jack. :T
Got rid of only the poppydowny bits after a bit of fiddling.
Can't get it to remove the rest without it ending up looking confusing, but it's done the job I wanted.
(yep, that's how annoying they are- I installed a tool just purely to remove them)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0 -

In case people are having problems:
Open up the Adblock Plus 'preferences'.
Then select 'add filter' in the menu....
Copy/paste in the filter...
Press Enter, and then make sure you click the Apply button.
Done.
There are other ways of adding the filter, but the above guarantees you block the correct script.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Sorry for interrupting here for a moment, I don't think Martin is saying that you shouldn't do what you want to on your personal computers, but posting it here in public would make people just block it even before they have actually got used to the new feature or experienced the benefits. I think. I could be wrong. All this information to make the site actually productive and beneficial would be undermined by such blockers. To me, it simply seems wrong to propagate using these blockers.
I wasn't disagreeing with that. Just saying what I will do and the reasons why, and hoping Martin or the web team will take the hint.
The excessive amount of content above the actual forum posts/threads makes using the forum more that a bit annoying for myself and probably some others.
If something could be done about that, then I wouldn't feel it necessary.
I've respected Martin's wishes, and not reposted the code to block the top masthead that he removed.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
