Or molasses. Although I never had either.
I stayed at an elderly neighbour's as my mum was ill when I was 5. She used to give me a spoonful of luminous yellow lemon flavoured cod liver oil every day. I quite liked it! (that and the clean, quiet house with the pretty china and tablecloth). I went back afterwards with a starched apron we made one teatime and blue ribbons in my curled hair.
Two days later, I was back to the unwashed urchin again.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Rosehip syrup?
I used to love this.
It's only a game

I remember - it was malt extract and we had cod liver oil too. I can also remember some very nice orange juice that came in special bottles.
All those vitamins and omega 3. I think our parents knew more about nutrician than we give them credit for.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
It was malt extract. . I had this 60 years ago. Cod liver oil as well, Yuk, hated that. Mom used to give us the cold liver oil and then the malt to take the taste away, loved that.Slimming World at target0

Definately, VIROL, as the youngest of five, and the skinniest (still am), I always felt flattered to be the only one to have this extra medicine which was meant to "build" me up, HATED it, tasted disgusting, however because it made me feel special I just accepted it !!0

What was that stuff, by dad still has cravings for it years later as he used to love it, from the health clinic i think?
And ooooooooo memories abound, I used to love the malt extract so much my mum had to hide it :rotfl: I wonder if that explains my addiction to malt loaf0 -
Really got me thinking about this now, I've just spoken with my Mum who remembers feeding me this vile stuff and was laughing at my memories, however there was another similar product to Virol which was more expensive, tasted LOADS nicer but neither of us can remember the name, may have started with "H"????, childhood memories, can't beat them !!0

I think the malt, cod liver oil and orange juice came in with thre NHS in 1946. I know mums used to collect it all from the baby clinics. I so wish my mum hadn't bothered.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
