Happy Decluttering. X0

Good luck with the decluttering and the selling. I'm amazed at how well you do on the NCT sales, I've only ever done one as I don't have much to sell.
Have a good weekend

I don't want to hang onto stuff which I want to get rid of for too long, or it's just moving clutter from one place to another.:pAlchemilla wrote: »Its a diplomatic tightrope trying to get kids to part with stuff. Mine always want to keep the dusty empty shoebox with no lid...I'd like to run down some stores of things which we don't really use much of. I did have hoarder tendencies (probably down to childhood where we often ran out of things and there was never any choice and if you ate an extra of something that was then missing from the day/ meal where it had originally been allocated.) However, I'm feeling that too much of some things just becomes an added burden and clutter of a different sort - which then weighs heavy on my mind now. SO am hoping that clearing out on all levels (not just unnecessary household items/ toys etc but food and large supplies of cleaning products) will have a lifting effect
Hold my hands up to being guilty of all of the above at times hence constant attempts to declutter. You're right about the lifting effect GreenT, there's definitely a therapeutic level there!

I've decluttered a lot over the last few years.
I'd been hanging on to some things for so long and had never even considered letting them go, as they were things that had always been there.
But I was quite ruthless, and these things left the house, and I never even missed them.
I still have things that I want to declutter, mostly in the loft, and garage. The pace is slower now, but I still do a bit each week.
I feel so much better without surplus stuff clogging up my life.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Really impressed with your mortgage free efforts and feel very excited for you that you are now down below £30,000!!! Must be an amazing feeling x Keep going you can do it!0

Whoops! Just over 2 weeks without a post - must try harder! In my defence I have had 2 absolutely manic weeks here
The nearly new sale (NNS) was a great success - but I did work towards it every day in the week beforehand Mon-Fri, the Fri night 4.30-9.30 and the Sat day 8am - 4pm, with more on the Sunday, Monday & Tuesday!! Personally I sold over £100 worth of stuff. After commission I then rounded it up and made an OP of £100 for it
Not bad for items mainly being priced at 50p!!! I came home with very little left
:j The children had some money from their toys/ books too
A good lot of stuff gone! :j
WI had a 'group supper' evening this week where we played host to 4 other WIs - was a great evening and we had a ukulele band as entertainment - I was rather sceptical about them but they were great fun!!:D I also got given a lot of the leftovers - I came home with 80 small sausage rolls, 1 1/2 trays of cheese sandwiches, 2 bottles of Schloer, a 1 1/2 litre of pimms (already diluted) - masses of salad (I removed all the pepper and diced it (about 5 peppers worth) and roasted with other veg) which my guinea pigs have been chomping on and an untouched loaf of sliced bread (we don't usually have it - but DS3 will eat it for packed lunches, thankfully!) There was masses of food left - lots got thrown thereOoh - and a plate of small cakes :T
DH has literally in the last couple of minutes landed in Saudi. He's coming back on Thurs. He was really unsure about going even for this recce, so I can't see him wanting to take the job! He is currently whatsapping me from the queue for immigration
Whilst he's away I want to make some visible progress in the house. I've started this afternoon on the cupboard of doom under the stairs, listing some of the stuff just chucked in there on ebay. Takes ages, though - so I'm glad they can all be auto relisted 3x for free if unsold! :money: It's easier doing stuff like this when he's not about because a- I make a mess getting it all out in the first place and he dislikes that (a lot) b - I can sit and do it and not be nagged by him that I should be doing something else instead! (those things will get done too - but at a time which suits me!)
DD finished her exams just over a week ago (Fri 13th) and had her prom this week - she looked lovely - as did her friends. All very grown up! Although I'm very glad she's not like I was at her age!!:rotfl:She's now left until Sept so has been tasked with finding a job. She had an interview at McD's today - will find out tomorrow. In the meantime she's my house slave!
Weather here has been beautiful for maybe 10 days now - which is fab - but means all my veggies need watering!!! I'm going to task DS1 with this job this evening - he's spent most of the day playing minecraft.....
One 'advantage' of DH being away is that we're going to eat lots of random foods to assist in the freezer/ fridge clear up
On which note - I must get back to the kitchen! xxI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Fingers crossed for your DD.
Awww I love guinea pigs.0 -
Some great results in your update, especially the NNS.
Well done on on starting the eBaying, it's really satisfying when the cupboard of doom gradually empties out.
Hope your DH finds the Saudi trip interesting. Even if he decided he didn't want to work over there, at least he's had the experience of visiting.
My cousin worked over there for a while - I think his family went with him, but his children were quite young then. He was in the oil industry, and I get the impression it was quite lucrative. He's retired now and in Canada, where he also worked for several years.
Hope DD finds a nice job for the summerEarly retired - 18th December 2014
