have a good day xStill, it is much needed - I tried digging over a small patch of garden yesterday but it was so hard- baked super dry and much of our garden is quite clay-y- even though I've added lots of improved over the years.
Plans today (other than supervising school work) - bake a loaf, do some (much needed!) housework and submit my tax return - had the answer to a gift aid query yesterday so can check that section today and send it in - I know I have a tax bill of just over £340 which will result... essentially down to the BTL
Glad to have one of the students' heated airers here - think it will get some use over the next few days! (I find most clothes are really suitable for tumble drying - plus I dont like the smell/ feel of them TD'd)
Off to wake DS2 up for 'school'!
ETA: slugs and snails haven't been a problem so far with the super sunny/ dry weather - although I'm very aware that planting tender young plants out directly before several days of rain could lead to issues!! I did a liberal sprinkling of animal friendly slug deterrent around them all yesterday, but will keep an eye on them!x

I'm quite looking forward to when the rain reaches here. The ground is so dry, I have a couple of big lupin plants to transplant and when I tried to dig a hole the other day the soil was just too baked. I suspect the weeds will flourish too after a heavy shower though5

I love your posts greent - always full of news and positivity. Have you considered planting a courgette in the garden at your Nan's house? it would give you an additional crop or the new owner a bit of a treat when they move in. I love the idea of lifting some of the bulbs.
DH did not give me a chance to lift those in our front garden in the bed that has been invaded by ground elder. He sprayed everything a couple of days ago. It was piddling first thing today but lots had already gone brown. I was hoping to retrieve 4 or 5 things before he sprayed.
We had a Village run to the F&C shop that was open last Friday - about 14 households with one person going to collect all the bags and everyone paying them. Then three of us ran round our patch so all deliveries were made while it was still hot!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)

Oh yes - am sure they will! At least my weeded areas (the minority of the garden!- most still needs attention) will be quite easy to get back in line I hope - should only be teeny tiny weeds in the dug over areas, so hopefully quick to maintain. The rest of the garden is another matter entirelyI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £206

I agree with SL, greent, bucketloads of news and positivity - sorry for your DS2, though, thats never nice for them. Also agree about the then-unknown positivity of your nan having died before the pandemic, sad though that is in itself
having had a proper funeral and sendoff makes a memory thats more positive than the surrounds. My dad was in a care home for 8 months before he died, and I still remember that 6 members of care staff came to his funeral in their own time, including one who'd left the home and was working elsewhere.
Hope your garden's still enjoying the rain, mine certainly is!2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
Glad to hear you're all ok and financially secure. We've been doing a lot of work in the vegetable garden recently. I'm trying to keep the weeds down by getting the hoe out regularly but I think the weeds spring up overnight! There's always such a lot of them.

Greent, do you have any advice on completing tax returns? I need to do one (hardly anything to go on there), but don’t have a clue where to start xx5

Just saw the post about ground elder SL...not now it’s been sprayed but if it comes again try it as a salad. If I remember correctly the Romans introduced it as a salad crop.... thinking about reducing the grocery bills and all that! We are eating a lot of sorrel at the moment. Nice to add to the more traditional salad leaves and to just pick as needed from the garden.Impressed by the 7:30am start. No chance here!!5
