Thanks, apple. The boy did well - an A and 2 x B grades. He is going for a remark in the one subject, as he is 5 marks off an A grade and his teacher thinks its likely to go up (appears to be quite a history of re-marks on the sci subjects finding extra marks...) He is 3 marks off an A on the other, but the teacher doesn't think a re-mark is worth it as it's maths, so rather more black and white. Whatever, I am super proud of him and his hard work! :T :T
Nand0s for dinner as a result (exam boy's choice) - yummy, but I am now stuffed!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

Congratulations to your son! You must be so proud :j0

Thanks all! I am super proud of him
:T As well as the 9 A2 papers he also resat 3 papers for his Maths AS level (having got a low C last year) and got a good solid A in all 3 papers! :T
There's nothing which is available/ appeals in Clearing for this year, so he's going to apply for entry next year and also resit 2 papers of his Maths A2 (to hopefully get the 3-4 marks/ 5 UMS points for an A grade) We're awaiting the re-mark on Chem to see if that changes at allHe's looking for volunteering/ a care/ health related job to boost his application and get some money!
I've said I'll 'pay' him for any (relevant) volunteering to hopefully help the motivation - although obviously not as much as he'd get with paid employment!
School shoe shopping has been done - although I still need to get DS2 some casual/ home trainers £195 spent on footwear for DS2 & DS3 so far.... Thankfully, uniforms themselves should not require much spending. I've bought them both some more school socks (M&S using vouchers/ gift card) and swapped out DS3's outgrown trousers (will take to school for 2nd hand rail) for some outgrown ones of DS2 and one of DS2's friends :T DS2's trousers still fit (yeay!) DS3's polo shirts are ok, and I also have the next size up ones ready- same for jumpers for him. I've had to buy him a new PE top as school have changed them (grr)I need to check DS2's white shirts - I'm hoping that they a- still fit and b - look white! If not, that's easily rectified. His jumpers are ok, so it's then just his sports and rugby kits I need to check (have already purchased new mouth guard (almost £50!!!!) and rugby boots and white PE trainers (inc in previous spends) Part of the problem that I have with him is very narrow feet (a low D) with a very narrow heel, so lots of styles slip off. (DS1, on the other hand, has mole feet - shaped like a spade and a 'H' width fitting!) Other than that, I had to buy DS2 a new backpack and DS3 a new lunchbag - both of which were reduced - yippee!
I'm getting DS1 to go up into the house loft (above family room) tomorrow and get boxes down - shall see if anything is suitable for DS2/ DS3 before re-assessing their Autumn/ Winter wardrobeI don't have much up there now and just usually get DS1 to get the boxes twice a year (seasonal changeover
) I don't make them wear a hand-me-down if they don't like it (and I don't pass shoes/ trainers/ socks/ underwear down)but it's definitely worthwhile from a moneysaving point of view
Ooh - and OH and I are off to Vienna (without any children!) next week! :j:I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
So I've just helped DS1 fill out a job app for a NHS apprentice HCA. Not that I necessarily expect him to get it, but it's a start. I've also got him filling out an app form for volunteering at the local care home and another apprenticeship for a care asst at a care home. Let's see how it all goes...
Finished sorting DS3's uniform out earlier (OH just needs to swap some socks for me - although worst case scenario is that DS3 has school socks already, I just wanted more as he's very 'hard' on his socks. Have named new PE stuff and just need to check trousers/ polos and jumpers still have visible names in. Still need to do DS2 - neither of us can seem to summon up the required enthusiasm/ energy!
Sold a small bag of DS3's clothes on fb00k this morning - so small OP made to match:T
End of Aug/ start of Sept is expensive - 2 x car tax, 2 x MOT and 2 x Winter service... (I always get my service done same time as MOT) Eeek! And I'd best book my car in sooner rather than later, as its MOT is due a full fortnight before OH's. Fingers crossed that neither end up needing any significant work...….I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
A little late, but many congratulations to DS1, a fantastic achievement. You must be very proud. Ouch to all the "back to school" stuff, this will be my last year of buying school uniform as DS4 goes into Yr11. Mixed emotions. A child free holiday with OH - that sounds fab. I think we have managed that once in almost 25 years :rotfl: Have a fantastic time.Starting Mortgage 01.08.08 £171,209.24. Thanks, chumpy - I'm super, super proud of him
Will DS4 not require uniform for 6th form? My youngest is 9, so just about to go into Y5 - can't wait for him to finish primary, I have to say - I've done 16 years at primary so far, and I'm SO over primary stuff now!
Child free hols with OH - when we only had 2 children we once managed 2 nights away and my mum looked after DD & DS1. Last year OH and I had a night in London and DD (then 19) looked after DS2 (then 11) & DS3 (then 8) (DS1 was away with army cadets) and my mum came down in the day and got them a takeout. Other than that - nope! I know people who regularly (once a month) manage to hand their children to grandparents from anything from a night to a week away- although I suppose the majority only have 2 children!
DS1 has had the results of the re-mark on his chem paper - 4 marks were found - so he is now just the 1 mark short of an A grade - argh!!! We are therefore going to request the 3rd paper is re-marked. There are 23 marks on that paper which he didn't get - hopefully he will have actually written 1 of them down to move him up a grade!Annoyingly so close! And if he doesn't get any more marks (or even of he lost a couple, which is theoretically possible) his overall B grade won't change. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

And today's news is that DD has a job whilst at uni - at the SU. It's around a minute walk from her front door (maximum!) and shifts are flexible, depending upon your study needs/ travel home/ general availability etc. They close during hols, so no need to book time then. Ideally they'd like 8 hours or more a week on average - easily achievableI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200
