    How is DS1 getting on at school? Any more detentions????

    Another 2 or 3 each and every week...... I really don't know what to do with him. This has been his worst year for them - and as a Y11 student he should be learning some responsibility and all that. Argh!

    We had heating on last week too. So I'm so pleased it's lovely this week-so far. It means I don't need to use the tumble dryer or have the heating on. :)

    Y11? Mmmm, adolescent rebellion and all that .... I do remember getting a detention because I had so many detentions, I really do ... I never told my parents, but it must be very troubling if *you're* the parent. Hope this phase passes soon!

    Me too, Kc!! :D Am trying not to give it too much attention as it drags me down. Mind you, am still making sure (as much as poss) that revision is happening. Will be sorely disappointed on results day if he doesn't achieve what he is easily capable of.

    Smallest 2 are off school today - school closed as being used as a polling station. They were meant to be going to the barbers with OH, but he's in London (again) for (another) job interview :D I'm full of cold and really, really don't want to sit in the barbers for an hour or more with them - thankfully OH said he'll take them when he gets back (early finish, hopefully home 3.30ish) - they certainly need it as they are both fluffy haired now :)

    Lazy day here - I let them both sleep in until almost 9 - they clearly needed it. We shall do some homework and lego and tv, I think - and they can run amok in the garden whilst I sit there with a cup of tea! :)

    I'm glad you've got the space to be flexible if you've come down with a cold - cup of tea in the sun and a quiet day is just right, I think :)

    I was sorting through paperwork for burning after the financial year end and was looking back through our mortgage statements and the original offer letters.

    Mortgage 1 (to buy here) £130 000 - total to repay £221 153. We repaid £164014.65 - a saving of £57138.35. Further advance (the loft conversion) £30 000, total to repay £40 501. We repaid £33 040.28, saving £7460.72. A total saving of over £64500!!! :eek::eek::eek::T

    I know it's a simplistic view, in that the original 'total to repay' figures were based on the fix and we went to SVR in the end, but even so....... that's a massive difference, and we weren't really doing any regular OPing for the first few years.

    And I've kept all my mortgage statements - am NOT ready to KM them - they bring me joy! :D I also think that they're actually quite a good lesson to look at as to the benefits of OPing - even all the small £5 payments made here and there from cashback/ ebay etc.

    DD is revising like a trooper - she's always been very self disciplined and motivated and really wants to go to Cardiff Uni - and the required grades are AAB, so she knows she needs to work.

    DS on the other hand is lazier - he knows that he can get reasonable grades in the subjects which matter for A levels with little or no work - but if he applied himself a little then he is capable of getting A & A* in all of those and would then be on to pass his 'dodgy' subjects (German, Art, Engineering) But another 4 detentions gained this week............ :( OH is in school on Monday for a governors meeting - he's going to have a chat with school (although he only has 1 more week left before s/leave - eek!!!)

    Those interest-saved figures are amazing - and a big argument for keeping tabs on your financial situation, if ever I heard one! Imagine if you'd stuck to the originals ... such a lot of income now at your disposal which wouldn't have been!

    Good luck to DD and DS - the teenagers who work hard are often overlooked in the positivity feedback stakes, I find (erm, tho that may be a personal finding, after I got over all my detentions!) so waving especially hard at her :)
