    Hi,

I have a Nokia N85 and am thinking of installing OVI Maps 3.0 and the Nokia OVI suite.

I wish to use it for navigation and would like to know if I would be charged while using the service or will it be free.

I am confused as I have googled for the answer and the responses are confusing whereby some say it is free and others say if you download maps it does not need to connect to the internet.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me an 'idiots' guide.

    Thanks :)

unfortunately the n85 isn't one of the phones nokia supply with free maps - whilst you can download the mapping program and maps from nokia website to n85 and the n85 has built in gps when u try and used the program to calculate a driving or walking route it will ask u after a few seconds for details of the licence code which u have to pay for from nokia - i know as i just got rid of n85 and replaced with nokia 5800 for that very reason - a list of nokia phones which support the free mapping is available on their website here but mainly newer phone eg n97 etc

You can download maps from various sources.

Thinking of moving from Nokia to an HTC Desire but the free OVI maps have been very useful when abroad but I don't want to pay huge roaming data bills

Whats the best Android map program which actually uses saved map data ? Don't really need turn by turn just a good map with my position on it

a low cost option like the copilot ver 8 http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/ might be what you need as it is on the phone and doesnt need the net and would be useful abroad. the uk+ireland version is about £26 and the other versions are also much cheaper than the competition. they have some premium live services for a fee but i havent loooked into it, see the pricing on the link above.

i dont know of a review for the android version (they do have an android version), but the same version on iphone has got good reviews http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/4456/copilot-8-mobile-for-iphone in this review it scores very highly. i havent used it and am considering buying this (once i get my desire!!! if not from three network then from other networks!). i hope others who have used this give some feedback on this
