If we beleive that obesity causes serious health problems like heart attacks, diabetes, etc then it is just the same as smoking and drinking. So just as we tax fags and booze because they are bad for you and place extra costs on the NHS over people that do not drink or smoke then it is perfectly logical to tax foods that make people fat.

Can of coke (not diet) zero nutrional value should be same price as a pint 3.50p per tin
Bar of chocolate - 5 quid.
    Macdonalds - 10 pounds.
    Donner Kebabs 25 quid

If smokers need to pay for thier pleasures why not lard !!!!!!.

Having a load of muscle is hardly healthy either, BMI is fine. :-)

But has no relation to lifestyle or activity heart disease etc.

We are not talking a load of muscle as muscle is on average twice as dense as fat.

need to put 300% tax on booze then as that is currently costing the nhs 2 bill a month to deal with

i think the nhs is a wonderful service and although i almost never require the use of it (thank goodness) im still happy to pay tax to keep it going.
i would happily see it streamlined though reducing the numbers of 'managers' and increasing the number of nurses and beds.

As an aside I would be very interested to know what an annual health insurance policy covering the same range of treatments the NHS covers would cost.

Does anyone really believe that if the govt started a US style health system (ie largely insurance company funded) they would still not find a need to take 20/40% tax anyway. All that would happen is tax remains broadly the same but now you have to pay for your own healthcare. Pointless.

Indeed smoking still does not bring in, in tax what it costs the NHS.
