I suggest certain idiots on this forum think before posting inflammatory rubbish - especially when this is meant to be an advice forum. If you haven't got any positive criticism to make then button it and p**ss off!

    Hi

Matt unfortunately the small minded idiots you refer to always comeback. I dunno if it's better to ignore them or to respond. I really don't care what 'they'/bigots/idiots/ post back to me personally but Aunt Harriet the original OP was upset about some of the comments and I don't think she's posted back. Everyone is entitled to express an opinion but to upset someone is going too far.

I agree that all of the negative/unhelpful posters should P"*s off.

I can hear it now 'what negative comments?' What are you talking about?

Peachyprice I was referring to zanzen4 post hence I quoted itthey said "you do have to pay for fuel ect when you are on jsa"

    Sorry, misunderstood your quote.
But that makes even less sense. You are agreeing with zanzan that you have to pay for fuel when on JSA. (where's that confused smilie when you need it)
Who told you this (in bold)

You might get help with council tax, maybe housing but never heard that you get your utility bills paid

I agree £64 isnt a lot to live off but as far as I am aware your £64 has to pay for food, utilities and perhaps something towards housing

    And???

The most sensible strategy for the OP is to pay off the debt at hundred pounds per fortnight for a month or so. A far better idea than seeking to extend the repayment period indefinitely.
What rubbish any debt councillor worth their salt will tell the op to negotiate a settlement which they can AFFORD to keep up payments on

If you don't want to pay for it why did you use it? The meters are in your home - if you were unhappy with how much you were using you should have turned stuff off. Why did you not put money aside as you went along? You still have £170 per month to spend on food. If you want to spend money on stuff other than food and fuel then go to work.

Typical of you kim . did you forget your tablets again ;)

Installing a prepayment meter would surely be more expensive as it charges a higher rate.

  • Dreamine, that is a very uncalled for comment.

Kim Yeovil has a point - if you can't afford to pay for it then you should do your utmost to keep the bills down?

You don't go to a petrol station, fill up, then drive off do you?

Yes, Kim does sometimes have a point in what she says. However, the way ishe goes about saying things is often totally out of order.
Mind you, she's not the only one that has posted some totally uncalled for posts in this thread.

are housing benefit / council tax benefit also paid? Your landlord does not own the meters so if the supplier wanted they can change them without his permission anyway as they do own them.

You need to remember that not all of the payments are for a debt - no supplier will accept payment for less than is being used (deliberately).
Regular readings will let you work out exactly what is being used.

Options to reduce the payments towards the debt are:
Get the meters out so there is no ongoing comsumption (very rarely realistic)
Fuel Direct - payments for the debt and ongoing consumption are taken from benefits directly - supplier sets the amount for ongoing consumption
    Prepayment meter
