We make homemade pizza most weekends!!! The kids love them! I do have to admit to buying packets of bread mix (when on offer) as it is easier and sometimes cheaper.
We use those mesh sheets to cook our pizzas on. I bought mine at Home Bargains for 99p each - but you can also get them from ebay. They are ideal as the hot air circulates all around and you end up with a crispier bottom ;)!
Don't let your first attempt put you off! Homemade pizzas are so much cheaper and healthier than bought ones (or takeaway). I "hide" spinach in ours!

Mmmmmm Pizza, thanks Zippy. Maybe should make OH homemade pizza more often to save the inevitable £30 weekly dominos binge he insists on buying!

  • Thanks for this Zippy - I make pizza for OH nearly every week and am stuck in a rut....this makes it so much easier to rootle around for a new recipe/topping!

(Not sure if 'rootle' is a real word :o - but I like it. Not as much as 'mega' though:rotfl:)

Emily - give it a go for sure! The resources are all there for the taking :D

WG - rootle is almost as good a word as hootenanny :D I shall add it to my vocabular :P

WCS - I've made them with nan bread and a soda brad base and ciabatta, but never tried french stick. Ill be out on the look for a whoopised one now!
I used to love the findus french breads when i was younger

my favourite and easiest pizza is using pre described bread, topped with baked bean juice and some cheese and scraps of meat from the freezer.. Simple and quick and filling!

In the freezer i keep "freezer corner" which is bits of - diff types of cheeses, cut bits of veg, scraps of chicken/ham/roast beef etc, chorizo, pepperoni, and ice cubes of pre prepared tomato pizza base - some spicy some plain.Im also going to freeze some cubes of spag bol or chilli and try that instead of a tomatoey base.

    Hi

    dough: I use

    5 cups bread flour
2 and a quarter cups warm water
    2 7g sachets of yeast
    quarter cup of light oil
    1 table spoon salt
    2 tsps sugar

usually chuck it all in the bread maker on the dough setting - sometimes rises up too much and gets a bit messy but best pizza dough I have tried

makes 4 thin crust family size pizzas - you can make 1 pizza and a loaf - makes nice bread too

    for the sauce:

1 tin tomato 1 red onion
    1 tblsp balsamic
    pinch dried chillies
    1 tsp sugar
    quarter tsp of paprika
    pinch dried oregano

I whizz it all in my smoothie maker and then cook on lowish heat for 20 ish mins until reduced

Just that really; I'm having a go at my first hm pizza and don't want it to be a disaster. I have found this recipe online:

    http://www.pizzarecipe.org.uk/

Which looks okay (my BM didn't have a pizza dough recipe)

I have got the sauce on the go and mozzarella ready too so just the dough to sort.

    - Mods please feel free to merge with an appropriate thread I didn't know where to ask this question.
