Average Speed Cameras

On my daily commute I have to travel through two sets of motorway roadworks with 50mph limits policed by average speed cameras.
Generally myself and most drivers hover around 50 but you get the odd driver who just carries on regardless at 60/70 mph.
I was just wondering if people do actually get caught speeding by these cameras and if so what at sort of speeds, or do these motorists know something I don't ?

I generally go through at a GPS indicated speed of 50mph, with a speedo indicated speed of 55. Been through plenty of times at 60mph and seem to have got away with it. It really depends if the system is active or not.The man without a signature.0

Also you have to go through a pair of cameras to be caught, maybe some of these drivers were getting off at the next junction or just joined and not been past a camera yet. Also, they may have a certain tolerance level to allow for speedo inaccuracies, ie, the old 10% + 2mph rule.0

I like the 'hide behind a lorry tactic when passing a camera' tactic.
The ones on the m6 between j15 and j22 (can't remember exact junction) or so don't seem to be active, or at least driving at 60ish doesn't seem to trigger.0 -
I have seen people pull onto the hardshoulder to "drive around" the cameras view0

Its the bikers who seem to get the best deal with these.0

Each camera is aimed at a specific lane, and to date I have never seen any aimed at a normal hard shoulder (that isn't a temporary lane itself).0

They can cover all lanes, incl. the hard shoulder, and anyone who says you can beat them by changing lanes, I'm afraid this is no longer possible.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

Yup. The first incarnation of the Yellow Vultures could only check the one lane, and switching lanes fooled them pretty easily. Once word of that got out, they fixed it pretty quickly. Latest models now can cover all lanes at all times.
Ah, but is this just what "they" put out or is it verifyable fact. I think alot of the publicity "they" put out about the technology is just scare tactic.
Not that I'd ever (conciously) test it out.0 -

The technology was always able to track you across lanes but they were not licensed to cover multiple lanes, this has now changed.0
