Daughter hitting puberty early....very early

We tried having the 'talk' i was hoping that she would be at least in secondary school before i had to do this, we got to the part about boobs, fuzzy hair, spots etc etc but she is terrfied of blood, even fake blood she passes out.
Im sooo worried that she is not going to handle periods.0 -
My youngest started hers last week age 11. I was surprised cos she seems so young for her age. She has always had puppy fat and the appearance of boobs.
She doesn't even want to talk about it and just cuddles me and buries her head when I've brought it up.One life.0 -
My daughter was 9 in December and has breastbuds.. and fine blonde pubic hair. I was about the same age thought my 2 older girls were a little older. They all developed a waist and hips at about 8 though.. I didn't think it was early at all just that they had lost the baby chubbiness.
DD1 was about 11 and started her periods at 13 and DD2 was 11.5 and hasn't yet started her periods.. she is 13 in July.. so they won't be long.
Neither has had moodiness or anything.. DD1 is 16 in July and we have had a few bad months with her.. but NOTHING compared with DS1 who was vile from about 8 until about 18. DS2 is 14 and hairy and smelly but behaviour wise not too horrific.. Or maybe DS1 was so bad anything is better lol.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I took my daughter to the doctor because one of her nipples went inverted. I was quite worried. She was about 7. The doctor said she was probably away to hit puberty. I was shocked. Sure enough she started to develop and her nipple went back to normal - nothing major until a couple of years later though - she just sprouted. She started her periods when she was 9.0

My dd (8) has also got breastbuds, smelly armpits (so have just brought her her own roll on to use), growing like noone's business (*note to self- there is 20% off tesco clothing at the mo as she keeps finding her sleeves and trousers half way up her limbs:eek:) and the odd white head on her nose.
I was mortified as she seems far too young but when I searched on the net, I was surprised to see how common it is and obviously many others on here too. My dd feels all grown up about it so its okay now.. well until she remembers to ask again, 'as I'm getting older, can I have a mobile, fb account etc?'... no no no :rotfl:0 -
DD(8) has smelly armpits (has done for over a year now) and has gone all lanky with huge hands and feet. I can't buy clothes fast enough and she is head and shoulders above most of her class mates - she could easily stand with the year 6s and not look out of place!
I can't make my mind up about her boobs but I'm pretty sure they are starting to sprout too.
No spots or moodiness as yet (no more moodiness than normal anyway).
I was horrified when she started getting B.O. and I looked it up on the net last year but I've kind of come to terms with her being an early developer now. It's a bit sad to think of her having periods anytime soon though...0 -
Interestingly just watched a documentary on BBC3 about the medieval ages, and it is considered periods (not puberty) is linked to weight of about 7st.
Considering the lack of food they had, the men and women relied more on the prayers to gods and magic for conception.0 -

I'd be really interested in that. do you remember when it was on/what it was called?
Funny because apart from being preg i have NEVER EVER hit near 7 stone. I am 5ft tall and weigh just about 6 stone, sometimes just under and never over (normally that is, i am more nearing 8stone now i'm preg) and i have had periods monthly, every month that is since the age of 12yrs. And conceived 3 times pretty easily - ok really easily and even strictly on the pill once, lol!
I am a tiny build though - don't look too skinny at all but just really tiny, lol!Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
I was 8 when I first had to wear a bra and I had a very womanly figure at that age as well as mood swings. My mum was a late bloomer so she didn't know quite how to handle it but my grandma (dad's mum) told my dad to talk about periods with me because she was only 9 when she started hers and I think it was a shock and so my mum reluctantly discussed it with me. I hated my body changing because I was still very much a little girl at heart and hated my breasts, hair in funny places and the way everyone started treating me differently. I used to look at the other girls in my ballet class and they all just looked like little boys still and I used to cry because my body was so grown up looking. I think I weighed about 5 stone when all this started happening. Oddly I didn't actually start my periods until I was 12, and didn't get hair under my arms until I was 15, but I did have 34DD boobs (on a tiny size 8 frame) by the time I was taking my GCSE's .
I shot up like anything in height when I was 11, must have grown about a foot in a year and was 5"2 in the last year of junior school with the longest legs, I looked like Olive Oil off Popeye! I also had a blood test at the same time and discovered that I had too much of the growth hormone so it might be worthwhile taking your daughter to the GP if you are really concerned. Since I was a foetus, I've produced weirdly high levels of oestrogen so my fast development could have been something to do with that.
I have to say, I don't think my mum dealt with my development that well but her mother hadn't told her ANYTHING about periods, she just gave her a box of tampax one day. My mum started dressing me in adults clothes instead of like a child and stopped treating me like a child, she lost interest in a way and I started to feel ugly and like I had done something wrong by growing up. I still wanted to be her little girl and it makes me sad now because I was only 8, only a baby really and I had my whole life to be grown up! The way my mum dealt with it, her uncomfortableness ended up making me feel ashamed of my body and I hated my body so much. I was always on a diet (from age 8) and wishing I had 28A or B boobs. It was until I was about 15 and a boy-friend told me he thought my boobs were amazing (can't believe thats all it took) and as I got older I learned a womanly body is attractive that I started to develop some confidence in my body. Remember, her body might be changing but she is still your little girl, I know it must be sad that she is growing up so fast. Luckily, there are lots of sweet packaged body sprays and cute girly underwear aimed at pre-pubescent girls so you can make it more of a treat and, although it sounds cheesy, you can make her entering puberty more of a celebration, go out for a girly shopping spree and spoil her a little!
