complained to primark about plastic bags!

I've never had a problem refusing a bag in Primark?
Mind you, I think it would be too much effort for some of them to bother to insist I took one. Suprised to hear so many people have had problems. I would be livid if someone insisted I took a bag.
Why can't we have nice paper bags that we can recycle. Humf.
And while I'm at it - why does my food have to have so much bloomin packaging? It drives me nuts!

I've never had a problem in Primark, and in my local store they take the hangers off unless you ask to keep them as well.
Primark do use a lot of very young assistants in my local store and have a huge turnover of staff, so it might just be that some interpret the rules differently.

i've still not heard back from them......
have to give it a few more days i guess.
it's such a stupid rule for them - and is clearly nothing to do with security for so many reasons..... i just want them to admit that!!:happyhear0 -

Whether you like it or not, putting the items you buy in a bag does reduce shoplifting. It seems that the people posting here have led a sheltered life and are not familiar with the methods used by criminals.
From a retailers point of view the choice between paying a fraction of 1p for a carrier bag that they give away or having clothing worth 1000 times as much stolen is a no-brainer. You only have to prevent one theft to have paid for a lot of carrier bags.
However if they refuse to agree with you, I presume that on ethical grounds you will stop shopping there. Problem solved.0 -

but how?! while stapling shut a paper bag will obviously make a difference to putting anything in that bag, i really do not see how giving people a plastic advert will be such a major deterant when they could already have a number of bags from other shops that they are just as likely to try to put clothes in (i guess my sheltered life doesn't include ever shoplifting myself, but i can live with that)?!

i find it bizarre that almost every other retailer manages to combat shop lifting without being quite so militant. especially since the items in primark cost so little relative to major department stores - one item from selfridges is completely different to one from primark! it is a huge waste of resources - and i rarely shop there, but that's not the point! if everyone actually complained, then maybe they would listen - it's better than doing nothing. people should re-use bags and should be given the opportunity to do so.....:happyhear0 -
just got an email asking for my postal address so i should get something from them in writing quite soon!!:happyhear0

There's an outdoor store near here that has bags that they seal when you buy something. I can understand this would stop theft, but not an ordinary open one.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0

melancholly wrote:i got really angry the other weekend when a primark sales assistant demanded that i use one of their bags as a security measure. no other shop is this militant in giving out plastic bags.
i've just sent them an email asking them to clarify how using their bag makes them more secure, and how they manage to overcome this in their penney's stores in the republic of ireland where plastic bags are now taxed!
i'll let you know if i get a reply!!
That's handy to know for when I next go shoplifting.
I can just see my defence in Court -"I don't need a receipt m'lud as I have the carrier bag to prove I bought it from Primark"
(please don't think I was serious when I said I shoplift - I get enough stick coming form Liverpool as it is.)

I cannot see how taking a Primark bag could prevent shoplifting. Who's to say that the genuine customer who just bought something won't sneak an extra item in their bag on their way out. Also, what about shoplifters who just go into Primark already carrying a Primark bag? Surely the only ways are a) to have security tags on the clothes and b) to be on the look out for people acting suspiciously/sneaking clothes into their carrier bags?0
