I think it's his attitude that's the problem here and it's obviously coming across in his applications!
If he came to us he would be seen by our nextstepper - cannot claim for him but we have helped many under 19's to sort out what they need and how to get it.:D
Equal ops and all that
Oh and darned good IAG:D Mags - who loves shopping0 -
Robert what happened with this apprenticeship that you had to attend near the end of the e2e meeting0
-
Oldernotwiser - certainly seems to be the case.
Its not the attitude thats wrong i can assure you that for free.
Would a repsective employer say no to an apprentice seeker with the following?
Work experience:
Mercedes Benz(2 weeks work from high school as mercedes benz asked for me specially and personally)
2 Years in a motor mechanic's course working at level 1
Waldorf MOT and servicing (turned up one day the next day.. they threw me the keys to a customers car and let me do a major service) not the fact that i was only 15 and still in my last year of high school) (wednesdays to visit work experience as it was related to my mechanics course)
Firth truck and Van (was moved from waldorf mot as the training provider said i could accomplish much higher tasks.)
Wastecare(when id finally finished school) one weeks work as a temporary laborer working with mercury, lead acid, amalgam and other highly toxic and flammable susbtances.
Having been braught up around classic cars(FORDS mainly) having capri's,mk1 escorts,mk1 fiesta's (me) :rotfl:from a very young age and having a life time ambition to be a mechanic eg service technician i think any employer would know that he OR she is not going to be messed around by me.
Turn up to interviews in a full suit,CV,Smile,Happy answering questions and asking questions which should be asked.
The fact's are that really... 18 counts for a lot more than what people may think.. as insurance risks are the highest downfalls to any manual or even skilled labor work.
Bearing all this in mind that i have worked at mercedes and so on as stated above.. being able to follow out tasks safely and correctly to the health and safety guidelines and the COSH... standard marks to which i have been trained to follow and understand and also being able to do the following:
change - brake pads/shoes,brake fluid changes, brake master and slave repair OR replace. and general brake overhauls.
Full engine strip downs (mercedes benz 2nd day there brand new CLK 320 needing full engine strip and rebuild) never worked on one before.
suspension upgrade's and repair or replace such as dampers, springs, anti roll bars, bushes etc
to welding, body repairs, and anything else i can think of...
Now for a lad going on 18 there cant be many people applying for apprenticeships with that follow up with refrence's from ALL of my work experience placements and training provider can there?
now maybe you should re think about the attitude status you posted. im ok with people and so on... if they dont like me fair do's get my head down and get on with the job in hand. but what i really cannot do with is people who dictate and tell others what to do and "predict how much its going to benefit me". when really they havent a clue! and im sure im not the only one that feels the same way. as posted above someone says how they know and think connexions is useless... so.. goes with out saying do things the old fashioned way such as recruitment agencies, leg work -suit,CV,and firing off emails, and phoning companies doe's work a lot more efficiently than center's such as connexions(maybe not for everyone but the majority think they dont do anything to reason there wages) face facts what do they do? to help with employment????
Sit in front of a computer screen, answering calls about offers of apprenticeships, OR are found on the apprenticeships website(which again i think is an utter FARCE!... as do plenty other round where i live... and even they visit the jobcentre plus website at connexions to go through job applications.. i stopped going months ago as i would be constantly saying applied for, applied for,applied,for... no help what so ever in the employment department im afraid just make's there wages look reasonable so...
this basically is i look upon life:
there is nothing to be found in new venture's as everything you do is done off your own back! i think that really you dont actually know what us school leavers have to do to find work...
just incase you dont know:- school leavers of the age of 15-16 are not allowed to claim benefits such as JSA as they would then be put on the un-employment register which in turn would take the stats of 2.9-3.0 million unemployed to way, way, way over that! if you stop and think how many school leavers leave school each year your talking at least 600k if not more! now.. 2 years comes and goes.. call it 12000k school leavers on the unemployed register... that looks bad for the economy dosent it? yes in deed it does.. hence the reason why centers such as connexions are setup.. hence for my saying" your only justifying there wages i can apply for the same things at home"!
so work it out for yourself "oldernotwiser"
Also i have begun to understand now why alot more people in my area are getting rejection letters from local college's - due to the college's foundation deciding who is capable of actually learning and basically getting better results for the college's status-
no wonder folk that leave school stay on in 6th form...

what happened... the company then decided due to "unforseen" curcamstance's could not set me on... loada garbage id say but the next day i had another interview any way so.. there loss really lol0

I can fully vouch for the OP. Connexions are the biggest waste of time I've ever encountered. In my last year at school we had 2 meetings with a 'connexions advisor' to help us choose the path to a carrer. However these meetings were pretty much a waste of a hour of my time.
looking for work during the long summer after Year 11, I went into the local connexions office and was told they could not help me find work? To rub salt into the wound when I found myself a part-time job they sent me a congratulations card eventhough they didn't help one bit!
To the OP. If your as skilled with cars as you say why not sort your mates out.. Do odd jobs on their cars for instance all it takes is word of mouth. Service their cars change bulbs, clean their car etc. Maybe a way to earn a little bit of cash.0 -
Have you asked some of your previous employers if they could take you on and let you do an apprenticeship
on the connexions front i used them once when younger and they weren't much help but maybe as i didn't have an idea what i wanted to do they didn't know how to advise me0 -
thanks i would ask my mate's but as i actually showed them on how to service cars and do full strip downs etc in the summer holidays for money so... just cleaning left for me as a possible option but they do that anyway haha
yeah connexions ... absolute rubbish! couldnt agree more!

Have you contacted all garages whether small or large inc dealerships that are within easy reach for you, if you have already been and done it then look forward to the interview on wednesday and take it if offered and keep an eye out on any possible apprenticeships0
-
yes ive asked my previous work experience place's and sadly cannot take me on either through lack of work or they have gone bust.
either if you did or did not know what you would have liked to do at the time they could still have done more such as put you in employment in general laboring work and so on like cleaning or shop assistant work as well... either way you look at it works work and money is money.. some people never find there key to what they really want to do in life but they still need work like anyone else... i knew what i wanted to do when i went and still do it hasnt changed scince i can really remember(eg since i was about 3-4 year old i wanted to work with cars and engine's) and they still couldnt help me at all.. they are completely NAFF hands down.

hi again

Yeah i have but am sadly being turned down seems the only way to get an apprenticeship is to go through agencies who specialize in apprenticeships that deal in the industry that your interested in eg mechanical industry and any other industry really there's usually one out there
