what to do? no more options anymore....

hi

im in a rather odd and frankly depressing rut. as some people may understand already.. sadly..

Well im in 18 on the 2nd of april and have been unemployed scince i left school in early 2008.
my problem is that ive attended numerous college's and still no avail. again feeling let down.most response's were"Dear Robert we are sorry to inform you that the application and further interview with yourself has been rejected. reason are unforeseen" on the 1st 3 or 4 letters i got back with this response. i actually contacted them and they said it would not be economically viable.."being only 17 and then going 18 with no saving's and no income. and unable to claim JSA OR ALG(adult learners grant). So i left the college option with a closed door.

I then began applying for apprenticeships through a company called Remit.(works like a recruitment agency for people looking for motor industry related apprenticeships). and so far ive had one interview on the 12th. and was rejected for living too far away.
I was then given another interview the following thursday (18th) to which... the man in charge has dissapeared from the garage and now wont be hearing any thing till 29th!!... feeling im yet going to be let down again...

im applying for jobs left right and center. and have been since i left school.. in a week i email and apply for over 15 jobs per week! and just getting no response or let down...
i know have things i want to do and to pay for.. such as a car and wanting to learn to drive(needed!) as alot place's are rejecting me for not having my own mode of transport) i already have a car ready and waiting mot'd n taxed!

the situation isnt getting any better... only worse...

my fear is having no other option that to claim JSA.

Anyone any idea's or anything to sugest?

Rob

Why have you attended numerous colleges? What qualifications do you have?

    I tried college's as my grade's are e's and F's
    Math's:F
    English:E
    Science:F
Motor mechanic's level 1 nvq(discarded paper exam due to incompetent training center)
going to college sounded a good idea to me as it would make me look more prospective in an interview but it just want to be.

You were rejected from colleges? If so, why? If the letters did not state why, have you called them for feedback?

what volunteer work hav you done to gain some skills and experience? You need something on your cv that shows what you are capable of. Doesn't have to be academic, can be working with things or people. Princes Trust?

And yes, claim JSA, many people do, you are job seeking, it is an allowance for you.

Is anyone like Connections helping you?

Just a bit of an idea for you...............

When you claim JSA after your 18th, you immediately become eligible for 2 things (well - there are others but these 2 apply, iykwim!) - Work Trials & New Deal. Get info on the first and ask to go on the 2nd.

Work Trials are a government scheme whereby you have, if you like, an extended interview. There MUST be a proper job at the end of it if it all works out. Basically, you go & work somewhere for free (get fares & lunch money & Benefits) and show them what you can do. If they like you (& vice versa) you get the job. They can run from 1 - 30 days, depending on the type of work (the more difficult the job is, the longer the Trial generally).

Today I confirmed that a guy who had sorted out his own Work Trial (by nagging the Employer regularly, tbh) is gonna be started as a Valeter on Monday & the company then intend to put him through his mechanic training next college year coz they were so impressed with him!

There are plenty of stories like that around within the Jobcentre - you just don't hear them much coz they're meant to be the bad guys!

New Deal is where you get an Adviser to support you in getting into your career - there's lots of different stuff going on there, & even some govt funded jobs to get you that first bit of experience.

    Have Connexions not helped you?

Whereabouts in the Country are you?
