We have ordered 35 cupcakes, with a top 'cutting' cake. Including the stand and boxes to put them in is costing just under £100!!

This is my 'credit crunch' cake http://www.icingonthecakeuk.co.uk/page9.htm

Hi, I'm making my own 12" fruit cake on the bottom, 9" carrot cake in the middle and 6" vanilla sponge on the top. I'm new to cake making, the cake bit i'm happy with, its the icing that is not quite as perfct as i'd like it so i'm going to cover the top layer with little flowers like the pic as this is the only layer i will have to cut into and put jam and cream in which will make the icing a bit imperfect/bumpy (IYKWIM).

It will hide a lot of icing sins!

do you know i thought i was the crazy one not liking odd numbers thank you for making me feel human :) x
  • Hi, I'm not going to help very much here as I think that cake is amazing (we had it on Saturday and everyon has raved about it). I do think it might be worth looking at the different tiered cakes M&S do as the quality of the couple I have tried was fab. Plus you can get edible glitter on ebay. That sounds tacky but the one I put on added a shimmer rather than chunky bits of glitter if that makes sense.
Anyway cake ramble over I hope you find one as nice as that within your budget x

Its a bit of an obsession, some might call it mild odd number OCD.

Can you imagine how crazy it drives me having 3 kids.

My brother's (now ex) girlfriend made ours - 3 tiers - top was lemon sponge, middle chocolate, bottom vanilla... funnily the chocolate layer disappeared and we're left with a mountain of vanilla to feed the blokes at oh's work this week... I never even saw a sniff of the chocolate one!

  • we're having 3 tiers - 1 fruit, 1 vanilla, 1 chocolate. Made by a colleague from work who makes cakes on the side so to speak. She normally charges £375 but im paying £250. We're having one from Waitrose that was slightly higher in price but she kindly offered my a good reduction so I have accepted it !
