My daughter is 21 and I have never had a penny for her apart from child benefit, my sons 14 and the same applies, they are our kids and we have paid for them both.

Tax credits are wrong and some of you are going to have a huge shock when the rugs pulled out from under you, you had the kids, you keep them.

The same group thats going to get burned in a big way when the tax credits go are the same ones up to the eyes with debts, you cant take responsibility for your own lives.

more fool you paying out tax and not getting what your entitled to. I think Martin himself would say get what your entitled to hes put enough info on the site about it.

I dont give a . . . what it was like back in your day as were not living back in your day EVERYTHING has evolved since then

Evolved into what though, lazy slobs who sit at home pumping out babies and claiming benefits to pay for them?

No doubt a new benefit will be created for these people. Just as there are benefits for people who can't afford to pay for their mortgages on their houses.

What a little ray of sunshine you are! I'm glad not everyone thinks the same way as you!

I think this thread has gone way off track! Correct me if I am wrong but did it not start as a debate into whether parents of older children or younger children were more deserving of the Tax Credit increase?????

All of you who think that Tax Credits are evil...what on earth are you doing benefits bashing on a benefits forum?

I think its absolutely disgusting that there are people out there who can't be arsed working and just spit out a kid every few years to keep them rolling in money!

Of course those of us who pay in to the system for 10 plus years and then accept a little of it back when we have a child, we are worse arent we?!

Those of us who failed to see in our crystal balls that our partners were going to graduate from university and not get a job for 2 years, then when they finally did get one get made redundant twice in 3 months....we are the reason this country is in the mess its in!

I'm having a bit of a rant but its really made me angry, I hope each and every one of you with your 'holier than thou' attitudes have a long fall from grace and find yourself having to trek down to the job centre to beg for a hand-out!

^ This thread is a discussion for:

Budget 2010: Budget 2010: Child tax credits up for one and two-year-olds
Not a debate about whether parents of older or younger children were more deserving of the tax credit increase.

But, I think the OP was wrong too, because it was Child Benefit that was increased in the budget.

I think youve totally misunderstood my points and this thread, it is about tax credits and my points related to those who work in receipt of them. Neither my points or this thread is about people who live / rely on benefits

Another thing that irritates me that I mentioned before is, the people who don't work and get benefits, are also the ones that get free nursery places for their children. They say they stay at home to look after the kids etc, but as soon as they are nursery age, they have a free place and are in nursery most of the day.

Sorry, just wanted to point out:

Free Nursery places for children of 3 (term following 3rd birthday, not from 3rd birthday onwards) are only for 12.5 hours a week. This will change to 15 hours in September.

I hardly think 2.5/3 hours a day is "most of the day". In that time I can go to a few shops in the high street (butchers, bakers etc), go home, do washing up, laundry, hoovering, maybe have something to eat/sit down for a few minutes and THEN it is back to pick the munchkin up. So while people are not looking after the child(ren) at this time, most are also not just sitting on their backsides either!

(I do also greatly dislike those who have many children and do naff all, but just wanted to point out that getting a bit of CTC doesn't mean you're lazy :P)

^ Why do you need a free nursery place in any of the examples you have just listed.

They are all household chores. People with jobs still manage to get all of the chores you listed done, on top of their day job and still have to pay for the nursery place.

If you want somebody to look after your child while you do your daily chores, you should pay for it like everybody else.
