Trying to cancel Carphone Warehouse contract!

Has anyone else had problems trying to disconnect from the carphone warehouse and O2?

Even though my contract has now ended, they have sent me another bill!

I had been with them for six years, and because their prices were not competitive enough I cancelled the contract by sending two letters of confirmation!

Even though I have done this they have sent a bill for £44-00!! My bills were usually only £35-00!!

Trying to talk to someone is extremely fraustrating as they talk down to me! Any advice to get rid of this bill would be appreciated! I have cancelled the direct debit!

  • if you've cancel the direct debit that's good.

Done the same thing to me - but I waited till they phoned me chasing up the money - sorted in 1 call! This was for a mobile phone for my niece.

I've been with O2 for 8yrs - keep having to fight with them to keep my "O2 fro life 1/2 price line rental"

Cancelling you Direct Debit is the worst thing you can do and anyone telling you it is a good idea is wrong, All that it will achieve at the moment is wrecking your credit rating,

You need to call them back up, Be firm, don`t let them speak down to you or control the conversation,

Did you sent the letters via recorded delivery?, If so get the tracking numbers and check the status before you call them, But most importantly don`t put your head in the sand and think cancelling the DD will solve the issue, Its going to need you to contact them again i`m afraid

I have contacted the bank and they confirmed my credit rating would not be effected, as I had not missed any payments....As my contract has expired, the money they are trying to get from me is pretty much for nothing! My phone has not been used!

I did contact Carphone Warehouse as advised and this hopefully is now being sorted!

I started this two year contract on a £30-00 a month deal, however four months in they increased it to £35-00! Its funny how terms of a contract can only be changed on their side! Has anyone got experience in this??
  • If CPW try to take a payment and the direct debit gets refused it WILL effect your credit rating, Not sure who advised you of this at the bank, But again you are being advised incorrectly, You need to contact CPW and see if your contract is in fact cancelled or still running.

If you have contacted CPW and they have said there are no further payments due, then you are fine, But if the situation has not changed from your OP, and you are continuing this stance of just cancelling the DD and sitting back, Be prepared for the consequences

Mr R is quite right. What happens is this.
You think you have cancelled the contract but the supplier doesn't agree.

Employed by the supplier are various members of staff who do not necessarily communicate well.

The Accounts department send out a DD because CS haven't processed the cancellation.

The DD gets bounced because you have withdrawn the authority.

The Credit Controller informs Experian and others that you are in default.

You lose your good credit record.

You complain to Experian who may or may not contact CPW who may or may not get off their corporate backsides and get the note removed.

Meanwhile, who loses out? Answers on a postcard to.....

Yes, I know it's not fair or reasonable, but it's fact.
