Hello - I am a newbie although I have been looking at this site for ages. Thought I could help out with the wedding thing, as although we ended up spending a fortune we spent it on the things we wanted to (and that we would benefit from - ie nice meal, designer shoes for me as I'm a shoe-aholic!) and saved money elsewhere - here are a few tips...
We had a seperate small civil ceremony (just 20 guests) and had a nice meal after the 15 minute ceremony but no night do, then had a big night do when we got home in a hotel where the room and catering was really cheap. That way we got a very special day, but also dodn't leave out any family!
Instead of expensive flowers we used rose heads in tea light holders dotted around the tables - just as effective as expensive arrangements and very, very cheap!
A family friend made the cake (ask around, people usually know some one who knows someone), my sister in law did the flowers and button holes, my arty friend made my invitations, and we had a CD made by a music/techy friend full of our favourite songs to play during the meal (no annying DJ comments!) Probably easy on an Ipod to do this! My bridesmaids dress came from debenhams (£60 reduced to £30 - bargain and lovely too - dressed it up a bit with a thick cream ribon from a sewing shop so looked individual and one off!)
Hope this helps!!0 -

go with the disposible cameras , we spent loads on wedding photos and they are tucked away in a box under the bed , i can't remember the last time we looked at them , probably when we 1st got them ,that was 14 years ago
if you have a friend who has a decent camera get them tot take snaps of you , parents , bridesmaids etc
good luck and enjoy the day0 -

Can't believe it Black Saturn your dress is almost identical to the one i was going to have. Ending up changing my mind in the end though as i wanted to surprise people and everyone was expecting me to marry in red as it's my favourite colour. Had a white one made but still a boned corset medieval style and velvet cloak. Your dress is gorgeous and you will look a million dollars.
