Your little one should be doing their own homework. Not you.

By year 6, they should be able to divide 50 by 32. If they can't then perhaps a note to the teacher saying that they didn't understand their homework would be in order as it sounds like they need to perhaps go over it in class.

Does it say not to use a calculator or do you not have one at home?
Are they learning long division at the moment and this is the question? Sorry I'm just trying to establish what the problem is.

Lol I do know he should be doing his homework - I am aware of what parenting entails.
He really struggles with maths so I would like to help him understand a method to get him the correct answer by himself!
Wow I'm only posting to help my little one understand his maths a bit more but I'm no maths whizz myself so just asked for a little help!

Yeah probably but where do we go from getting that 32 goes into 50 once with 18 remaining?

    You have to use division.

Long division. It will give you the exact answer to the nth decimal place. Like you learn at school.

If you don't uinderstand it, the school will help you to understand how to do it.

But in order to help you we have to understand what the problem is. We can tell you where to find a calculator or where to find instructions on doing long division but if the problem is that he's lost his glasses and can't see the buttons we're not much use :D

    And stop being so defensive.

All I'm saying is that perhaps he needs some help from his teacher if he's not getting it.
