anyone else developing a germination obsession?

Another obsessive here ! This is such an exciting time of year with all the sowing going on. My seed boxes are stuffed with half used packets of seeds, some of which are rather old, so I'm always anxious to see whether the old seeds have still been viable. Our living room faces east & west so I often find myself relocating my seed trays from one window to the other to catch the best of the sun as it moves around during the day. One of these days I'm going to drop a tray of seedlings all over our cream carpet whilst doing this and then I'll really find myself in the dog house! I love the excitement of coming down in the morning and finding that something has "given birth" during the night.0

Another one here

i`ve got about twelve tomato plants, 3 different varieties of chilli, sweetcorn, west indian gherkins, and a cucumber all inside, outside in the unheated greenhouse i`ve got carrots, fuchias and early potatoes alongside some purple sprouting broccolli that i started off last year.
I need to start off some flowers to grow alongside the veg and i`ll be rooting through the packs of seeds again shortly to see what else i can start.
Fingers crossed for us all, hope to see some higher temps soon.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Yep, me too! Glad I'm not alone! :rotfl:0 -
Sad or what, i sometimes think the germination part is more exciting than the harvesting part. But then every part of the year has its thrills. One thing i really love is the way big seeds like squashes and courgettes shoulder their way out of the soil, heaving all before them.0

On Sunday my OH wanted crumpets for his breakfast when i replied we didn't have any in his response was..........
" If you wasn't spending all your time peering in to them pots, moving them, watering & talking to them you might have realised we had no crumpets!"
Hmmm last time i book his footie tickets for him!!!!!!!!!!
tell him to make his own blinkin crumpets http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/homemadecrumpets_70053.shtml
Cant he see- you have more important things to do!:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

LYNZPOWER, A top class handyman he is,chef he isn't! even the cat doesn't 'meow 'at him when he's in the kitchen because he knows he won't be COOKING anything.
The last time he went in to my kitchen he fitted it!:rotfl:0 -
Another addict here. So far i've got 46 chili seedlings (Cayenne hot, Hot Tepin and Jalapeno) 45 tomato (Gardener's delight, Ailsa Craig, Harbinger and Sungold F1), ten Russian Giant Sunflowers, spring onions, Carrots, herbs etc etc etc.......
I check on them at least twice a day, castigate the wife if she forgets to open the curtains for light etc!!
oh, i 'm like that with the rotation of the seed trays for when the sun goes around the house. this yr, my seeds are in my bedroom (have an unheated greenhouse, but it's a lot quicker to germinate indoors) where it's east-facing and so it's most useful when it's a bright start. but in my front room, it is of grave importance for me to open the blind before retiring at night so the houseplants will get some kind of morning shade as it's west-facing.
i've decided that i shan't be using the airing cupboard this yr as i've also got a bit of a washing obsession... that's another story!:eek:0 -
oh i am so glad its not just me, i have planted some flowers this year.......yes another confession and they arent all for companion planting! I know shame on me......however the seeds for some of them are microscopic and i keep staring at the seed trays for them appearing.....the kids were complaining about the lack of cooking in here as i rotated the trays into the sunlight for about the 10th time.....Every Penny's a prisoner :T0

Woo hoo!!
Seeds I planted 8 days ago in cold frame have started coming through... Only problem is, I was getting a bit carried away and forgot to mark what was where.. I have a seed tray and trough planter with chives, salad leaves, radish and spring onion.. have a vague idea, but think I'm going to have to wait a bit longer to be sure!!!
Needless to say all my seedlings since are clearly labeled!0 -
Hi.. I am to am a compulsive seed watcher.. may i pull up a chair at the local "GO" meeting?
I took check on mine and get amazed on how much they grow in a day!God helps make my veggie patch grow. He provides everything I need.. It only fails if I do NOT do as He has told me!!
Imagine if Christianity spread like swine flu... how much better the world would be!! God Bless!0
