Damaged in transit - please help
Comments
-
Have you seen photos then? Please don't refund without seeing photos, just in case.
Thanks for your comments.
I shall certainly follow that advice. Unless buyer is trying it on and sink is not damaged, I am not sure that I would learn anything from looking at photos? Even if it appeared that the damage had been caused say by the buyer hitting it with a hammer, buyer could claim that must have happened in transit."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Ask for pictures. It's possible that the sink is not damaged at all, they simply want both the item and the money. If that is the case then they will be unwilling to produce photographs, but otherwise they should be fine with it.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

a) buyer could be "trying it on" - wants goods and a refund
b) even if buyer has hit it with a hammer, it's useless to either one of you - the cause of damage you may never know but at least you have seen evidence of the damage please make sure you see several, good, clear photos.
c) by inspecting the photos carefully you can hopefully determine that it's "your" sink that is damaged and it's not a buyer wanting to exchange their old damaged sink for your new one...if you see what I mean...you may be surprised at how often that sort of thing goes on!0 -

Why would a buyer buy a granite sink to hit with a hammer. Buy something lighter if you're just going to break it, then you wouldn't have to struggle to carry the pieces away, let alone the complete item in the first place.
And if they had a broken sink already, wouldn't they complain to whoever sold them that one?0 -

I never suggested that the buyer would hit it with a hammer...I was following up a previous comment. And I wouldn't for a moment suggest that anyone would buy a random item just to break it for the sake of breaking it.
Sometimes people buy an item off ebay to replace something (identical) they have had for sometime - quite possibly they cannot return an item where is was originally purchased from because it's out of warranty, cannot be sourced in shops any longer, they lost the receipt etc and unfortunately there are some that would claim that they had received a broken sink and wished to return it but in fact would return their older item if you see what I mean? It is quite a common problem for sellers who deal in electrical items in particular. I've never heard of anyone doing this with a sink but I do know for a fact that it goes on a lot and was just making the OP aware that it is a possibility so that OP can be aware and make an informed decision on how to proceed0 -
I really can't see this as being the switch scam..a granite sink for goodness sake? Please return it fully packed for a full refund, not exactly the same as sending a 20g ipod .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I agree, I doubt it's a switch scam but it is a considerable amount of money to the OP and I was trying to repsond to OP's question about why/what was to be gained by requesting photos from the buyer...if it doesn't help the OP it may help someone in a similar situation who stumbles on the thread.0 -
Sink was in manufacturers box with styrofoam, so I am at a loss to understand damage in transit.
Been speaking to a plumber. He thinks the buyer may have cut the hole in the work top too small. Used a hammer / rubber mallet to force it in. Hence the crack accross the bowl.
I small ask for photos of sink and (damaged?) packaging."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Just out of interest, can you tell from the courier's online tracking facility when the item was delivered? How long after delivery did the buyer report the damage to you? Have you enquiried if there was any visible damage to the package upon it's arrival when the buyer signed for the delivery?0 -
The package was sent by RM parcels. There is circa 5 days between when package should have been delivered and complaint. Buyer states "it was damaged when I collected package". Thus I cannot identify when they collected it and had it X days before reporting. No mention of damage to packaging on collection or whether they reported this to RM."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
