Well the tv will only work on 720P so make sure its no higher than that
That said ive no clue why it wouldnt work on a lower resolution if youve physically reset it (Are you SURE it was reset?)
Other obvious is to make sure your on the correct HDMI input on the tv, the PS3 is outputting 720P as a MAXIMUM resolution and that its NOT set to 'FULL RGB':idea:0 -
the other thing no one has asked have you updated your ps3 firmware at all as there are always people that love being out of date?0

Basil1234 The PS3 is a brand new slim version, only got it last week, when I set it up it updated to the latest firmware automatically.
aliEnRIK I reset the PS3 as follows: first I held the power button until the second beep to reset the picture settings, didn't work. (advice from the PS3 forums etc..) Reset all the way back to original settings using the options on the PS3 menus, still didn't work. Have tried to manually select HDMI from the display settings, but when I select the HDMI source on the tv "no signal" is displayed.
There is only 1 HDMI input on the tv, I can't even get as far as selecting the HDMI output because it won't connect using the HDMI option at all.
Comparing it to the Alba, I just connect with the HDMI cable, switch it on and it works first time, everything is automatic and it is just a case of choosing the settings you want.0 -
I also updated the tv to the latest software available on the Samsung website.0

Just a guess but are these hdcp compliant?!0

...and looking at the link supplied above, looking at the full user manual pdf it mentions:
Whenusing an HDMI/DVI cable connection, you must use
the HDMI IN 2(DVI) jack.
...have you tried plugging it into the hdmi2 port and resetting your ps3?!0 -
Is the HDMI connecting to tv and DVD or something else than PS3?0

Thanks for all the suggestions, I rang Samsung yesterday and they are sending an engineer out to look at the tv.
It appears it may have a faulty HDMI board that needs replacing.
That would suggest that my other Alba tv also has the same problem? I must be very unlucky to have 2 out of 3 tvs, that are less than 1 year old, both have the same problem.
I am getting another PS3 from a friend tonight to test it on the "faulty" tvs, I am baffled as to why my PS3 will work fine on 1 Alba tv, but not on a different Alba or the Samsung. It suggests that it is the tvs that are at fault, but I am surprised two different brands, that are both new tvs would have the same fault.
Is it a common fault for tvs to have faulty HDMI inputs??0 -
The suggestions about HDMI and HDMI/DVI ports.
The tv does have two ports 1 for each of the above, I am only using the HDMI cable, not a HDMI/DVI cable, but I did try it in both ports to see if it would work, it didn't!0
