can you download hijackthis from somewhere and run it on the PC
if you have MSN messenger I could send it direct to you to install over that
I think I need to take a look at what is going on
I take it you have a "legit" version of windows Xp ??Ex forum ambassador

I can download from this other laptop but don't quite understand what hijackthis is.
Can I put a download you suggest on my memory stick & then run it on the PC that isn't working?
As far as I know it's legit, although the PC is used it is from a reputable retailer & not out of the freeads.0 -
yes you can download hijackthis to the memory stick and then run it on the other machine

save the log to the memory stick and then copy it onto here

I'm also wondering in Internet Explorer 7 is the problem
I think you should remove it from Add/Remove programs
if you have any issues after upgrading from IE6.
With the latest release of IE7, you can now uninstall it without too much difficulty. It's hidden by default. Here's how to find it.
How to Uninstall IE7:-
1. Go to
2. Click Add or Remove Programs
3. Click Show Updates checkbox
4. Click whatever version of IE7 you have. For example "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview"
5. Click the Change/Remove buttonEx forum ambassador

Hi Browntoa
Thanks for all your help but I've taken the line of least resistance & this morning took it back to the shop I bought it from & slung it at them.
By 5pm they hadn't fixed it but thought "there's problems with windows(!!)".
It looks like they're going to have to reset the whole thing & load it all up - I don't care they just need to sort it.
Thanks again0
