    Sorry. Being thick here.

They do fried onions in a can?

Would it not be cheaper to buy two onions, fry them up yourself then portion them off to the freezer?

Not being rude, I've just never heard of them!!!

    Well the challenge is on..

A no spender for me today with a rather yummy lunch of leftovers and pasta bolognese for dinner. Morrisons value pasta 19p for a big bag = about 5p max for me. If the rest of it costs 50p I'd be amazed because theres only a bit of mince, onion, value passata and an oxo in there and enough for two days (I think) so I'll beat you with 30p a portion.

    Balance to go £60.

I always end up throwing out half a bag of onions.. just trying this to see if it saves on waste! Plus it cuts down cooking time. clean up, which is useful if I'm travelling a lot and can't be bothered cooking.

I've turned into the freezer queen since I've been on MSE. It drives the other half mad!

I also buy big bags of veges when I go near a good market, Mushrooms, red onions, aubergine and peppers then sling them in the oven with some olive oil. Once it's out (at least 4 portions for two) I bag it or tupperware it all so that when I crave veg it's already done. I think it's a dirt cheap way of doing it.

Sorry - hijacking the £60 thread!!

can i just check i understand this correctly- are you saying you only intend to spend £30 for whole month on food for one adult? does this include all stuff you take to work/college or whatever and include cleaning materials? if so what do you intend to eat- it works at about £7.50 per week.

yup that would be correct, and yes it does include lunches to work. basically i eat a lot of pasta/rice which i buy in giant bags from asda for about £1 each, lasts me a couple of months, and the leftovers of dinner go to work the next day.

my weekly shop from tesco online would have cost £10ish, add on £4.49 delivery, but had vouchers £7.50 so final total when it arrived £6.77. that includes washing tablets that will last me three months and loo cleaner. slightly !!!!!!ed the plan by spending £6.79 in asda yesterday, but tesco yoghurts weren't as cheap (8p) as asda and no toffee flavour...and i needed razorblades.

grand total so far £13.56, leaving £16.44.

oh and incase anyone worries, i'm actually following a healthy meal plan supplied by the dietitian from the gp so i am getting all the stuff i need. :D
