There is this recipe here with a few reviews...

The recipe I initially posted was Readers Digest and I used tuna as I'm not keen on smoked fish etc, but you can replace the tuna/salmon with whatever you want.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. Thanks Smiley_Mum....that's another one with peas in...
And the other recipe might be handy for when I can't be bothered to shop - I've always got a tin of tuna lurking in the back of the cupboards.
How's the Smiley Kids?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

It's got to have peas........even if you hate them. They give it colour and make it look good and food should always look good enough to eat.

Peas are ok. I like Farrows tinned marrowfat processed peas. I bet I'm not supposed to use those, am I? :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Not really, but I think they'd be ok........better than no peas at all.

Looking at the recipes (and staying serious for just a minute
), they suggest that the haddock be cooked in milk.
I love haddock, and occasionally buy a nice big fillet for tea (like treating myself to a steak  )
The first time I did this I cooked it in milk. Seemed a bit of a waste though - after all, it's not like you can use it on your cornflakes afterwards. _pale_ So I've always used water since, and it seems just as good.
So, why milk? Not very MSE, is it? Would water be ok for this recipe? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I'd say so, yes.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

2 cups easy cook rice
frozen peas (1/2 cup)
2 hard boiled eggs
1 chopped onion
1 - 2 pieces smoked haddock
curry powder or tumeric, coriander and cumin
prawns (optional but do make it a bit special)
sunflower oil
Pop the smoked haddock into a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil, cover with the lid and turn off heat. Leave to poach in the hot water and then pop onto a board to cool. Take off any skin and flake when cool.
Put 4 cups water onto boil in a large saucepan. When boiling add pinch salt and 2 cups rice, give a quick stir and pop lid on and lower heat to a simmer. Once rice has absorbed all the water turn off heat and drain. (I put rice into a tupperware rice cooker and leave it in there until ready to use).
Meanwhile chop up hard boiled egg and cook frozen peas and drain.
Heat oil in a large pan, pop in chopped onion and spices and cook until soft. Add drained rice stir and add flaked fish and peas and prawns if desired. At the last minute add chopped up hard boiled eggs and serve with mango chutney if you have it.
Hope this makes sense! It is one of our favourite meals!

It will be fine cooked in water, you could even cook it (covered) in the microwave, but poaching the haddock in a little milk is the best way to cook it. It absorbs the milk and tastes better. You could always add the remaining fish flavoured milk to the water you cook the rice in for extra flavour.
