I'm afraid that doesn't make any sense, if you were going to VM then you would be taking a cable service, which has nothing to do with your BT line.
Sounds like BT have already actioned your disconnection process, perhaps someone else can advise.

VM's phone service is supplied by cable, not via your existing phone line. It's an entirely separate network to BT-you can't switch a BT service to VM cable, or vice versa.
So VM would not have been 'taking over' your existing BT line at all, unless you were signing up for Virgin National, which runs on the BT network.
You have yet to confirm if you signed up to Virgin Media or Virgin National? However, since you said you were taking a TV service from VM, this could only be delivered via cable-which means that you signed up to VM cable.

ok i have signed up with virgin cable so i can have tv but i also signed up for phone line so that i had everything with virgin.

Unfortunately just before xmas i had taken out plusnet. So i couldnt take the broadand out with VM. My problem is i didnt even think about plusnet going through my phone line.

If you sign up with vm for your phone line for some reason they automatically contact bt to tell them they are taking over my calls and line (not the bt line but the phone line and to cancel the bt phone line)

Hope this makes it a bit clearer.

You need to confirm which phone package you have taken out with VM. To repeat, VM's cable phone service has nothing to do with your BT phone line. It's perfectly possible to have a VM cable phone and a BT phone/broadband service at the same time, though it would make little sense to do so.
The only way VM would contact BT is if you have signed up for Virgin National, in which case Virgin would be taking over your phone service on the BT line. But they would not do this if you are signing up for a cable service.

You are correct in saying it will make no sense to sign up and keep vm and bt phone line, I didnt want to pay 2 lines thats why I went with vm phone line but you are wrong in saying virgin cable will not contact bt as they already done so. I have received a letter form bt stating that and i am definately not a national customer i am a cable customer!!

You don't have to sign a contract, the contract starts when you sign up online or over the phone. However under the distance selling regs, you have a 7 day cooling off period.
I would be more concerned about being able to cancel your BT line cancellation. I assume you are out of contract with BT?

I cancelled no problem and It is 10 days since I signed up!

I have just called VM and taken a new contact with new order number etc as the nice lady on the phone has given me a deal including broadband which makes my only out of pocket £4.85.

This means BT cancelled and I will still have to pay plusnet but as she knocked some money off as I say I am only out of pocket £4.85.

    Thanks for all your help
