  • Thanks for all of your replies & help.
I spoke to the Ford garage who did the service & oil change on my Focus, by the way, slight mistake, its 2005 model, not 2004 & a 1.8 zetec engine.
They said they couldn;t be sure what oil they used as it depended on what they had in at the time but more often than not it was Mobil but as long as whatever i topped it up with was semi synthetic 5w 30 & met the Ford specs, that would be fine.
I read somewhere that Ford are now replacing there Formula E oil with Formula F. Not sure what the difference is.
I noticed on the Halfords website that they do a Semi synthetic 5w 30 oil of there own which meets all the Ford specs. Anybody had any experience of using this?

Iceblue24, do you agree with garage that mixing brands should be ok as long as its same spec?

yes. as long as its the same grade, i.e. 5W30 its fine
  • Thanks Iceblue24. I've always tried to take care of the car & now its out of warranty & 5 years old, wanna make sure i'm not gonna mess it up. Theres not alot of difference in price of the Mobil & Halfords own brand oil. Would you recommend i go for the Mobil one?

yeah, ive been using halfords 5w30 in my old 1.8 zetec for the past 15 years. still runs sweet as :D you can try going for the branded oil to see what its like. you might be lucky and notice an increase in mpg, but dont expect big results. At least thats what i noticed after i serviced my car last year with the branded oil
  • Thats good enough for me Iceblue24, thanks again for your help.
