shampooing carpets..any os ideas ?

Options
my kids are going away with grandparents to butlins next week so i thought i would have a real good blitz around the house......
my living room carpet realisticlly should be taken up and a new one put down its had 12 years of kids..dogs....hubby's muddywork boots etc.....it was a light colour green now its like a patterned carpet ...i used to vax it before...but.... found it quite expensive by the time you paid for a few bottle of 1001... vax shampoo etc.....
so does anyone know what i could put in my vax instead of the expensive carpet shampoos.. ? or does anyone else find it expensive.? as they do say , not to use anything but the proper stuff, but they are going to say that, so you buy their shampoo...

hope someone can share their tips...... thanks....i would be really gratefull

I'm sure I read on here somewhere that someone used Stardrops to do their carpets with. I think it was in one of the " stardrops threads"

    Hope that helps..

Ive used Stardrops in my Vax and it worked better than the 1001 Vax stuff i got with the Vax. I used a cap full of stardrops and added some clothes conditioner to stop the millions of bubbles in the collector.
