Old Virgin Equipment

I terminated my contract with Virgin early as I was moving house. I gave them my new details to send out an envelope to return the wireless router, modem and tv box. They haven't sent it over a month later and I have phoned again in the mean time.
Firstly, if they don't send it to me, has the equipment any use? Can the wireless router be used on a non-Virgin service?
Secondly, What would be the consequence if I throw the lot in the bin?

Virgin still own the equipment, and I'm sure I read something on here where someone binned it and Virgin charged them something like £250
I'm sure someone will come up with the exact figure, but whatever you do, don't throw it awayYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Dont throw it away! (loads of people will come up with allegedld smart and childish arguments) but Virgin do own the equipment. Call them, ask to speak to a supervisor and ask them to sort it, state that, if not collected within 28 days, you will dispose of it and also ask them for their email address to put it in writing (team leaders will normally give theirs out).
Hope this helps.

If you see a VM engineer in the street, give it to him & ask for a reciept. When I was a VM engineer I used to carry a reciept book for just that reason.Or if the is a VM depot near you, drop it off there.
But whatever you do,do NOT bin the equipment or you'll be charged for it & the details passed to a outside collection agency charged for either the recovery of the equipment or payment for.
As for Alex's 28days,I'd keep it for 6 months.
As for it's use, once it's disconnected from the network,it's only use is for a doorstop.

Don't give it to an engineer, when they return it to their bybox (lockers) there is no guarantee that it will show on VM system that the box has been returned, you may find months down the line you may get a letter and I wouldnt rely on a hand written reciept. You need to get a jiffy bag sent to your house or a collection arranged0 -

Actually,
you're wrong there. I also was in charge of the stores as well & any STB returned had the barcode on the bottom scanned before being palleted up to be returned to be "Screened & Cleaned".
The only one's not scanned were the old Analogue STB's & the SACM's.0 -
OK, I will give them another call tomorrow. It's a bit of a pain really as it is only free to phone them if you are on a Virgin phone.0

Stick it in the loft and forget about it. let them chase you. They collected my STB from my new address but told me to keep the router, which I gave to a friend on cable as a backup in case he ever bricked his doing firmware updates.0

Just hypothetically, if you move and keep the equipment how would they find you to charge you?0
