Looks like the extra cost has really slowed things down!:pB&SC No. 298

Hi all, just to let you know i went bankrupt on Monday the 12th.
All I can say is, if there is anyone out there still thinking about it then don't!!!.
I have been thinking about it for 5 years, had a marriage breakup and lost my home and i so wish i had done it sooner.
It isn't half as bad as you think it is going to be. All the staff at court were friendly and helpful, checked my forms took my money and made me swear on the bible.
I was a little embarrassed as I have trouble saying afadavit but we had a giggle about it.
After this we waited about 10 mins then she took me down to see the district judge.
He was a nice man in a suit in a normal room sat at a desk. I sat opposite and he asked me to confirm my name and asked if i had taken advice. He then asked me if i had any questions for him and that was it, he said he has now signed the bankruptcy order and wished me a good morning.
We went back to the waiting room where we waited another 10 mins while the paperwork was printed out for me. When this was done she explained to me that I was now bankrupt and to expect a phone call in the next 2 - 4 hours from the official receiver.
I waited at home and the call came just as said, i was asked a few questions about any bank accounts or if I had use of a car, pretty easy really. She said they would be in touch again in a week or so to organise either a telephone interview or if needed a face to face meeting. I guess this is to provide all the information on my debts and who they are with and also explain about what and what i cant do.
Anyway take my advice and don't take 5 years to get round to doing it.
For once in my life i can breathe again and sleep at night.
I want to thank everyone on this wonderful forum for all the advice, guidance, information over the last 5 years too, it really helped me from not cracking up.
My fresh start of a new life starts here0 -

A bit late, but I went BR on the 1st of april, but have had no internet access until now. Just avoided the increased fees and, hopefully, a nil tax code.
Not the most pleasant of processes to go through. Court was fairly straightforward and was helped along by a really decent, helpful court official who went through all the forms and took the money. Seeing the judge was interesting. I ended up in the main county court room which is usually used for big cases, but the case for that morning was delayed, so I was ushered in there instead of waiting for somewhere else to become free. The place was huge for just me and the judge. A few questions later and it was all done. I walked out happy in the knowledge that First+ can stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
The OR didn't get in contact at all. I ended up calling them the next week. He admitted they were completely overwhelmed with cases. A phone interview is arranged for next week and I've just finished gathering all the paperwork they asked for in the OR pack they sent me.
I guess it can only get better from here.0 -

Hello ABCs!
I would also like to join the group, as I went bankrupt on 12th April.
I have lurked on the site for months, and have learned so much from other peoples' posts. I usually felt too embarrassed to post anything about my own situation. :embarasse
My appointment was at 9:50am, but a busy day in the Court meant that I had to wait until 1:15pm to see the Judge. I felt a little overdressed, as most of the other cases apparently felt that tracksuits and trainers were fine for Court. Surely I'm not the only one who feels that one should dress respectfully for Court??
There were 5 Bankruptcies booked in for that day, which is fully booked apparently. They have been fully booked every day for a long time, and were fully booked every day this week too.
I was so nervous, as the 2 BKRs before me had already been sent back with errors in their forms (not picked up by the Clerk), and had to join the queue again!
When I eventually went in front of the Judge, she was a very nice, professional lady. She just ran through the consequences of Bankruptcy with me, and pronounced me Bankrupt within about 3 minutes of entering her office/court.
I then had to wait a further 45 minutes for the papers to be typed up (lunchbreak time, so short staffed!).
My OR got in touch 2 days later, at 8:40am. I was a bit surprised to be phoned before 9am, but small children ensure that I am always an early riser!
My OR interview is booked for 10:30am on 22nd April, which is next Thursday.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
At least it is a telephone interview.
I haven't received my interview pack yet, and so scared.
The good news is that I have been approved for my Coop Cashminder account, which is awesome, as I had to drive for miles to get to my 'local' one!! Luckily, I can pay cash in at the Post Office (not likely to be often, lol!), and not likely to have to visit them again.
It was my birthday on the day that the OR got in touch, so I'm hoping that by my next birthday, this will all be a distant memory...
