    It will be funny if I start getting requests for Merkins instead of invitations. Or maybe we should team up and design Merkin invitations! lol. Also, on a serious marketing tip see if you can target some burlesque performers uk based if you can do swarovski merkins and such like I think you could get loads of extra publicity.
    .

    ha ha merkin invites.... I just imagine great granny 'what is this supposed to be dear?' Burlusque... def the way to go... as far a I can remember it is a growing trend in the uk....

    Mabel, you are fab, the stress is obviously productive lol! Think burlesque market would be a great one to go for, could you offer personalised merkins? As burlesque performers tend to have a theme e.g. sailor, can't actually think of any more but if you really went for it could possible get Bizarre magazine interested in using them for a photoshoot, doing an article on personalised wedding merkins - victorian themed ones to go with the victorian jewellery, steampunk, ones with tattoo type designs in crystals or beads, ones with skulls, stars, maybe matching pasties; could personalise them to match an existing tattoo or compliment it, or to match a hair colour...sorry if this is all too complicated, it's just ideas on a theme really. I know the latex/leatherwear industry charge high prices for personalised or one-off items...this is also running away from the wedding theme isn't it!
    Anyway here's my idea; it couldn't be done by anyone else (in the same way) as the group of people on here, so here's the thought I had yesterday;

    Set up a website which is run for people who would like to earn a few extra quid but don't know where to start. Aim it at people like us - who don't realise that they too could go round their house selling stuff and then put the money aside for whatever project they have in mind. Charge a small fee for membership and make the thread primarily about well-run, easily accessed forums, with the assurance of help from experienced people (us) who are happy to find links, give advice, explain things three times as though to a small child if needed; aiming to help people with depression, health problems, or simply lack of confidence, who don't know where to start and might need to just have a natter about their problems; but offer them an opportunity to have a kick up the bum, or a questioning session, or some positive inspiration;
    this then turned into me thinking about how we could ask Martin to promote it on TV as being something that developed from tips and tricks on his website;
    then i started imagining the advert lol;
    (E4 ad man's voice)
    "Would YOU like to earn a few extra bob, but don't know where to start?
    Would you like to gain confidence through running your own little business from home, while still enjoying time with the kids while they're young, or being able to continue your normal job?
    Do you just need someone to explain things to you, and be there to help you out if you start to flap a bit?
    Maybe you could call.....THE DRIBBLERS!" (play A-Team theme).

    Obviously we couldn't be called the Dribblers (shame!) but there could be sections, and personalised help guaranteed, and we could pass people on to each other for specific needs. We have examples including myself of how it can be done, I wouldn't have the first clue how to do it but anyway I thought I'd put it up here and see what people thought :)
    kids are shouting, have a good day xx

    latex.... you have to tell us how you know! LOL!

    Mabel - I think Paula has some great ideas there....

    Morning all. Went to bed early as I was shattered with the weekend's happenings. DH's uncle died suddenly yesterday, so I'm hoping that's our 3 things well and truly out of the way this time.

    Haven't done anything for the jewellery/altered site for yonks, and won't get a chance for a while as we are off on a cheapy bucket shop holiday next week.

    Munchki, congrats on the job. My mum always said it was easier to get a job when you were in a job, so the next one should be easier to find. This one at least will take some of the pressure off you I hope.

    Saucy, this can't go on. They must take you seriously and fast.

    I was gonna add my 2p to someone else earlier, but I forget who, so I'll see if I can recap once I'm home from work.

    Paula B - you need to have a word in the ear of Cagne and Amber as they are thinking along similar lines too. Happy to chip in with some web design help. But, I have held back because I think one it is great that people are learning about web design on their own. And it is more empowering if people get to try and do something new! But, I am here to help if it is needed or wanted.

    Ok-i'm not panicking but... I've bought the domain,got hosting, pointed my dns thingy at the nameserver wotsit (hahaha technical) whats the best way to start building it? do I have to wait til the nameserver things completed? not even sure if I have to fill in the addon domain thing with webhostingbuzz or if it is automatically done when the dns is sorted? I'm gonna sound really dumb (whats new) but not even sure where I need to go to start building it...where do I find the blank website??!! The one i've got now my webperson does through wordpress..can I do that?

    Dilli - that kind of would be the idea, for people to do it themselves, we wouldn't be doing anything for them so they'd be gaining knowledge and confidence from them doing it for themselves. Basically it'd be like this thread, but we'd advertise it and help people to promote themselves, figure out website design etc, plus we'd offer promotion on the website, stuff like that :-)
    I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

    MoneyM - this is my step by step plan.
    Do a holding page for now; don't worry about the rest of the site. Just have a holding page and I can help you to create that and a link to a blog.
    Rather than doing a bespoke build you can buy a premade wordpress theme and just modify and install it.http://www.markettheme.com/ This is a pretty good theme $55/£36. So sticking to wordpress is a good option.

    So, I can do the following - I can design holding page for you let me know if you need the logo doing - but I think Munchki is on the case already for you.

    A blogger blog so that you can have a separate merkin blog. I think if you angle this the right way you will do really well with this idea as it is unique and considering how much money is attracted by Myla and Agent Provocateur.

    Concentrate on getting the stock ready and I can do the techie stress bit for you instead. :)

    Cool, there could always be a featured dribbler of the month/wee and how things have changed for them and what they have achieved from being involved in this group.
