Which is the best new small car?

I would like to buy a new small car, so far I have 6k saved up. I took the Kia Picanto strike out for test drive but am not sure as so many people seem to make fun of the Picanto. I am currently saving an additional £250 per month so by end July will have enough to buy the strike out right. I also like Toyota Yaris but not sure with all re calls.
I would like a small 4 door with air con. Now I am thinking of Mazda 2 Tamura special edition which is £11375 but 0% interest with 50% deposit. So I could put down deposit of £5723 & pay £157 per month over 36 months then the car would be mine.
Or I could spend 6K on a second hand car, would I get a one or two year old small car for 6K? Anyone own a Mazda 2?
So my options are:
Buy a new or second hand small car for around 6-7k in cash now.
Or
Pay 50% deposit & aprox £150 per month for next 36 months.
I can't afford any more than £150 per month as I work term time only & salary not that high.
What do you think?:)

The Mazda 2 Tamura is a cracking car for the money.
Reasonable spec and looks good with the kit. Get a white one.

It would be worth thinking about a low mileage reliable second hand car that is a little older - Honda Jazz would be my recommendation.0

Mazda seem to have a good reputation. Id have said the Skoda Fabia as well but if you are worried about the badge it may not be a good choice for you.
If you use a car broker, you will save some money on a brand new car.
I used car file for my new Golf and saved about £1600. Give them a ring anyway and see if you can get a good price for the Mazda (or any other new car you fancy). Jonathan is the chap and he is very helpful. My purchase went like clock work and the car was delivered to my door. The other thing about it is that as its distance selling, you have more rights re changing your mind than if you went into a showroom and signed up.

There are a few other brokers recommeded on here you could also check out.0 -
i would buy new as i always think you can get a better deal this way if you work out the cost of the car over 10/12 years.
also, no mot, and potentially servicing costs for 3 years too.
also consider the tax banding and insurance group of any potential purchase - choosing a £35 annual tax car rather than £185 will save more than £1500 over the life of the car. lower insurance group will also save you money0 -
Just went through this exercise here in France for a non-technical female friend. Shortlist included Panda, Aygo, etc. But settled on Hyundai i10. Cracking little car, friend particularly liked the driving position, seats and guarantee. Haggle hard when buying and be prepared to walk away if dealer won't give decent discount, model upgrade etc. Picking it up on Tuesday.

What about the new Chevrolet Spark from £6945

I would not buy a Picanto pretty poor build quality should come with a free trailer to throw the bits in which fall off, Toyota Yaris has not been the subject of a recall but if you worried avoid it, Mazda looks pretty good but £11,000+ for what is a small car seems a lot when you can get the 5 door with aircon non special addition for less than £10,000.0

Poor old Kia they've got to put all those bits back on for free then in it's first 7 years whilst it's still under warranty..;)0

Like who? My girlfriend and I bought brand a new Picanto unde the scrappage scheme in September and it's absolutely brill, I wouldn't swap it for anything. Fantastic mlieage and fuel efficiency, drives beautifully and only £35 rod tax. Go for it and stop worrying about what others might think. If you like it tht's all that matters, isn't it? :A0 -

My next door neighbour has a 55 plate Picanto, I am happy to report that no " bits " have fallen off of it, nor has anything gone wrong with it.0
