Easiest option would be a scart switching box such as this one from Argos. It should also allow recording from Freeview box.

I had this mysterious "black and white" problem 2yrs ago. You are probably trying to either
    (1) Use an RGB scart cable and are connecting it into a socket that will not handle RGB signals. Scart sockets are not always RGB compatable. It can sconfusing when u think the scarts on the back of the TV/device says RGB but it turns out (usually) that only one of the sockets are RGB compatable.

    (2) Could simply have a faulty scart cable. (try swapping with another cable)

Solutions .... from reading ur subsequent posts it seems that the scart input on your DVD/video are not RGB compatable (often the case on cheaper equipment). Only other solution is if you have a spare scart socket on the back of the telly and it accepts S-VHS signals is to buy a cheap s-vhs - scart adaptor plug (around a tenner) and connect the DVD/VIDEO VIA that setting the output to s-vhs.

If you insist on RGB quality then a switching box is the solution (I got one in the end) but again make sure it will handle RGB signals on all the sockets. The cheaper ones will not and generally will handle composite video only. Sp after looking at the Argos box I would avoid this if you want to maintain RGB quality, though if quality is not high on your list then this would be ok I guess. The RGB switch boxes tend to start at 30quid plus. A company called Lecktropaks (spelling??) sell the box and adaptor and specialise in solving these kind of connection problems.

I suggested this scart unit from Argos as it does have RGB. There are 6 buttons on the front, A, B, C, A-B, A-C and RGB. However I would certainly check before buying in case they have changed since I last bought one.

No need to pay £30 when something at £10 will do the job.
  • Ive bought the box from Argos and guess what

It's possible that the channels you can't get are on the same Multiplex and that can be down simply to reception in your area.

Here's what is available on what multiplex.

Well I agree jem16... if the Argos unit will handle RGB signals on all sockets then obviously go for that 10quid unit. I paid thirty quid for mine 3-4yrs ago so it looks like things have changed since then!!!

I was only wary about the Argos unit because I could not see the full specs.
