Have you by any chance connected(by scart) your Freeview box through the DVD/VCR to get to the TV?
  • My scart socket on freeview box ( one scart socket only ) goes from the freeview to the dvdcombi then one comes from the combi to the tv ?

First of all I would make sure that any scart cable are full pushed in. Sometimes scarts can be funny this way and one very slightly out could be enough to cause a problem.

Secondly if it's still the same I would try both plugged in to the TV on their own just to make sure nothing is wrong with either box or scart cable.

A B&W picture can sometimes be caused by using an S-Video signal into something not set up for S-Video but I can't imagine that would be the cause.
  • ok thanks all the scarts are fully pushed in
Funny i have left the scart socket in the freeview box and put the other end in the tv ( so combi dvd /vcr isnt connected ) and hey presto colour back ???????

    All beyond me lol

OK so the problem is not with the Freeview box.

Now try connecting only the DVD/VCR and see what happens.
  • right i will check that out , jkust thought i had a bush basic video at my previous address which again i tried to pop in between the tv and freeview box and again bw pic ?

It's possibly because your Freeview box is set to output in RGB and a VCR cannot record RGB. However this tends to give a blank picture rather than b&w.

You're better with the chain of DVD/VCR to Freeview to TV but I know you can't do this as your Freeview box has only one scart.
  • m funny because i did try and record a tv prog last night on a tape and it didnt tape it

Have a loo at the settings for Freeview and see if you have it set to ouput in RGB. If so you could change it to PAL and see what effect this has.
  • It doesnt have any menu which shows this looks like i will have to swop the leads about to watch freeview and view vcrs and dvds thanks for youur help
