OS Daily Thread - Saturday 20th March

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for the Spring Equinox!.It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning lovely OS-ers!
Happy Vernal Equinox! Spring starts today
N9eav - I have a friend similar to yours in as much as she won't eat eggs, dairy or wheat. Oh and she hates soya and pulses and won't eat red meat. It's fun cooking for her! And I have enjoyed the 10th Anniversary Bargain Hunts this week too.
JackieO - Glad things are sounding positive for Frank and hope he continues to improve today.
jc - I do hope you feel better today and less 'swishy'
nic1lou2 - Sending prayers and thoughts for both your friend and her mum. And hugs for you as no doubt you are being a wonderful support to her.
Julie - definitely fingers crossed for a good outcome for your husbands meeting.
Gemma - Good luck with the house and the mortgage honey.
Noahs - I once had a dream like that about Ben Elton the comedian..
Sandy - Have seen all your posts on flyladies but it IS nice to have you pop in on the daily and I wanted to send big hugs and good wishes.
Candygirl - glad the antibiotics are working.
Penpin - how are you doing hon? Missing your posts.
SunnyGirl - huge
honey
lowesy - It was so lovely to hear all your happy news, the most important being that you can try and conceive again as soon as you like! Oh and thank you. I know I probably bore a lot of people but for the few that aren't, I shall continue my purple prose..

smokey - Hope you have a great time in St Ives. My parents in law go twice a year.
Bargain - I am glad your pre-ops went well. Weight was my only issue too. I had my pre-ops two weeks ago and am going in on the 5th April which was a bit sooner than I thought. It's Tristan's birthday that day though so I see it as a good omen.
flutterby - Well done on earning that much money!
Butterfly - Big hugs honey. Sorry the car failed.
JackieO - Glad things are sounding positive for Frank and hope he continues to improve today.

Brunch will be (as usual) bacon sandwiches from the huge pack of bacon bits we got BOGOF from the butchers.. Dinner will be the remainder of the scrumptious spanish omelette I made yesterday with a salad, followed by christmas pudding as my OH ordered a tray of individual ones from Approved Foods and it arrived yesterday. (He LOVES christmas pudding!)
I have just ordered three joints of meat from Sainsburys. Pork, beef and a huge gammon. I priced them up from the butchers and they worked out cheaper as they are all half price at Sainsburys right now. The order arrives on Tuesday so I better clear as much space as possible from the freezer. I guess if I make a giant bread pudding that will at least take out all the stale bread that fills about half a drawer!
I hope everyones weekend starts well. With love, light and
for all.

Good Morning Diva - and all who follow.
Up early for a w/e, but have real headache so just couldn't lie down any longer. It'll soon go now I've taken the paracetomol.
Have had an incredibly busy week, so have hardly logged in, let alone posted. So not sure who needs (hugs) - just help yourselves.
Spring, Diva? Really? Oh I do hope so. have had more than enough of grey - it's time to wake the gardens up and bring on the sunshine!
We are on Day 2 of the process of appointing a new Director of Music at Church, so am on the interviewing panel all morning, following all the practical sessions yesterday.
Might go and get my ironing pile a bit further reduced, it's not been cleared since we got back from our holiday.
Hope you all have a good start to the w/e.Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Morning peeps
its rainy here this morning so fingers crossed for it to brighten up for this afternoon, last shift today then 3 days off :j i was so tired last night when i got home that i just fell into bed
my alarm went off at a quarter to four this morning and i hopped in the shower and now i`m back at my desk.
Feeling a bit peckish but won`t get chance for brekkie until about 830 so i shall sit here rumbling
Plans today really depend on the weather, hopefully it will dry out and i can spend some time in the garden over the next couple of days. All the seedlings in the house are doing well and i had a peek at the early potatoes in the unheated greenhouse yesterday and some of them are growing up through the soil :j really pleased with this as i`ve never grown earlies before. I really want to get the new raised bed dug out and made up as i have a garage full of timber just waiting to be used.
Not a great deal more to report really, usual morning chores are done, ie bm and wm emptied and DH will be sorting out the dw and houndie walking this morning. The house is nice and clean and quite relaxed really
just need to sort out my meal planner for the next couple of weeks and work out the grocery budget and then i`m sorted
JackieO - Nice to hear of Franks improvement
Butterfly Brain - Sorry to hear about the car, hope that things look up for you soon
Smoky - Happy holidays!
Have a super Saturday peeps.

EDIT Beemuzed - we cross posted, hope that your headache vanishes quickly ((HUGS))Planning on starting the GC again soon

really wanted to do some gardening today, I 'hoovered' the garden yesterday and picked up alot of leaves and debris , today I want to start preparing the beds and tubs ready for my veg
( or is it too early for that?)

Morning.
Wet and nasty here, 29mm rain in the last 24 hours, so everything has gone soggy again.
Had friends over last and we seemed to have polished off a few bottles of wine. Managed to successfully avoid gluten and dairy, and everything was eaten up.
Work today at 1, so lazy morning with a cooked breakfast I think. I should clean out the hens and maybe order some new ones...
I found a bit of a gem in the wine dept at ASDA. Southbank, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I am not a fan of white wine but this is delicious with lots of flavour and not too dry 13% and get this....... £3 a bottle on sale.....I have my stock now so I can let on
Suffering from eye infection, so those nasty drops keep working their way down the tear duct and in to my mouth, gross
Well, folks have a good weekend

Morning all
Thanks for all your get well wishes...I am getting there but don't feel I could drive just yet. Although my DH learnt to drive many years ago he never got round to sitting his test so I'd rang the insurance company on Thursday to price up how much it would cost to get him on the insurance and it was going to cost an extra £30 per month but i said he had his provisional since last year (he had lost his original so we re-applied for it when he got his scooter). When I still couldnt drive yesterday I rang the insurance company back and the guy asked me to check theback of his licence for the issue date - whcih was actually 1997.......soooo it was free to add him :j we were really chuffed - he was so nervous driving yesterday afternoon but he'll soon get used to it!
OS wise.....nothing.....totally ashamed! DH has just been fire-fighting and doing what he had to so as things kept ticking over. The house is a state and there has been very little 'proper' cooking done! I'll hopefully be able to tackle some tomorrow.
DH has a grading for his martial arts class today so I get to go and watch him get all hot n sweaty
Have a good day xClimbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

:oUp early with DS again;) feels like tea time already as have been up ages:rotfl:
DS has music group today but he is trying to wangle his way out of it by saying he is ill;) he has a cough but it hasn`t progressed into anything. I still feel coldy and have a cough but onwards and upwards.
DS and I are going to make a chocolate cake later and it is HM pizza for tea.
Raining here too:cool:. i want to get in the garden and start planting. May get some compost this weekend then it is there ready. I have potatoes chitting at the mo.
Diva Ben Elton:eek:thats is far worse than David Platt:rotfl:. Did he rant about "Thatch" all the way through it:rotfl:
BB sorry about the car.....until we got our new Doblo we were spending more on the car and van than they were worth! They are an expensive pain in the neck at times0 -
Morning all
Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.
Bright but very wet under foot here, but forecast is only for "isolated" showers so we may be lucky and not get any more rain, started at 5pm yesterday and rained most of the night I think.
Didn't get to do the baking yesterday but did get all 3 beds stripped, washed and re-made, all ironing done except what was worn yesterday (that's washed but needs drying and ironing).
Need to pop to MrT to return pack of streaky bacon that came with my on-line order, doesn't appear to be sealed so will get and exchange/refund. Will crack on with baking then as need to get it done whilst OH at work so we can get organised for painting the dining room. Have mananged to menu plan for next week but budget is very thin, so will be on a very tight one for the last week but am going to give it a go, have been doing GC for a year and only managed to keep within budget once, but know that's better than what I was doing previously - spending scary amounts then throwing lots of food away every week, now I buy food that will get eaten and leftovers always saved/used up. Should be able to reduce my budget tho, will keep trying.
Little car returned from garage, not really any further forward they can't find anything wrong, but have said what they think is wrong, each door has individual sealed unit which controls central locking, once one of these starts to go it will trigger all the others periodically, but without stripping each one down they won't be able to tell which one it is - so they advised until one door won't lock/unlock it's best left as there's only 1 in 4 chance you will get the right one if you change one. They checked all wiring etc and keys/fobs to, so only had a small bill, feel happier now I know it's not electrical fault tho.
Had delicious gammon, egg, chips (jacket pot for me) and salad last night - very easy tea as was expecting MrT delivery between 6-8pm and he arrived at 6pm - so got all shopping away whilst dinner was cooking. Tonight we have chicken kievs (OH and boys), fish pie for me, new pots and veg.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Good Morning All
Had a lie in this morning cause its my Birthday - OH gave me tea in bed and my pressie which is a lovely pair of boots I've had my eye on for ages.
So not too much os today. Visits from family and a meal out at an American Diner tonight.
Very wet here too but sun is trying to come out at the moment - very mild as well.
Ooh and have got kippers for breakfast today :jme & the kids love em.
Have a great day.x0 -
Just wanted to say that The Old Style Resource Bar is such a nice friendly place to visit. I've become increasingly hooked on this money saving website & post at many of the other sections. I'm a bit thin skinned and when I recently received a few nasty comments when posting in another section of the website, it was 'good ol' style' that I visited just to feel soothed....
When I was a teenager & going through a rough patch with Mother I would go running upstairs to Granny's granny flat where she would sit me down & give me a ginger wine & biccies & listen to my tale of woe. She was so loving & kind. Old Style has that kind of feel to it.
So, thanks to those of you who are kind & supportive, it's much appreciated. :T"Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Happy to be a surrogate granny any day. I'm a real one as well so I'm well qualified.
Stay with us, you're welcome here.
