I would just like to praise Jessops, I went in on saturday just to look at digital SLR's, but received really good knowledgeable sevice and got offerred a great deal, so decided to buy!!
The EOS 300D, with lens and Adobe Photosuite elements 2.0 (which I've been wanting for a while), was selling at £689.00, and the man threw in a 256M CF card (£34.99) and a camera bag (£12.99), plus I can claim back £100 from Canon. I also bought an Epson R300 photoprinter which they'd reduced to £90.
Now you may well say that you could get a far better deal on the internet, but I could walk away with it there and then without any worries about delivery, and have the opportunity of free technical service afterwards. AND I also got £8.50 worth of photopaper for free AND 200 7x5 free prints!
Oh and the customer service was excellent!!!!!!

I agree Jessops are fab
I called in to purchase a new lead for my digi camera cos id mislaid mine when moving, they had the one i needed in stock but it was £24 i never thought owt about it to be honest, just that i needed it and if that was the price so be it
It was only when the lovely guy said , we also have these multi card readers that do a better job for £9 if you'd rather, and went into a full explaination of the ins and outs in comprehensable language that i decided to get one of those instead.
I was totally made up, i came out of the store knowing everything there was to know about my purchase and had also saved £15 in the process, i took a note of his name and wrote a letter to head office commending him on his service and proffessionalism
Big up for Jessops, its where i'll go everytime in futureNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

I find them excellent as well. The staff all know what they are talking about and will always take time to explain everything too you. I guess they need to be like that now so that they can compete with the internet.0

LOL hey Jay-Jay, guaranteed you won't look back!! That's great that others have had good service with Jessops as I thought I may have just been extremely lucky, but looks like it's standard type of service..................which is great!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Digital photography is great! Sometimes it used to take me a year to finish a film because of the cost (and the fact that most of my pictures were rubbish anyway!). Now I can go out and take 50 pictures and it doesn't matter if none of them are worth saving - apart from mybruised ego!!!!
Definately go for it!0 -
Thanks,
I'll only be looking at getting a cheapo camera but does anyone have any advice?
I've seen them for as little as £60 in places but obviously, one for £700 is going to be better.
Any advice in this direction would be greatly appreciated.....maybe I should start a new thread as I don't want to hijack Savvy's thread.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

Don't be daft Jay-Jay, it's all about the same subject! I researched the internet first with these threads/sites;
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs.asp
http://www.megapixel.net/index.php
http://www.photo-forums.com/WebX?14@170.EXwPbeLTjau.11@.ee6b2b4
Then looked for more detailed reviews of my shortlist (needs v costs) from magazines such as Which Digital.
THEN went into Jessops, now don't be afraid of just popping in for impartial advice. Fair enough I DID buy on my first visit, BUT I didn't experience a hard sell, the bloke I spoke with was really into his photography, and he recommended one that was on my shortlist, then the £100 cashback swung it!!So if you cantbearsed.com to research the net, you should be fine going into Jessops a few times and asking their adivce what would suit your needs!

Thanks Savvy chuck *kissy smilie*
I'll have a look and get see if I can blagapressie.comfrom my other half.
I will get one but it may be one from the cheaper end of the scale at the moment.

Yeh mate the cheaper end are a really good starting point, I used an Olympus D-380 2megapixel. But all those links and mags cover the cheaper compacts too, and a lot explain any jargon you're not sure on as well, which is ALWAYS handy!! My advice though is to first make a list of what you want the camera to do, how much you want to spend, weight, card type, battery type etc, that fits to your lifestyle, then start finding a camera to suit. This is because it's such a minefield to sort through all the available models!!
Edit: OH WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
