I have been very MSE this evening and stitching hems and the like on skirts that I have been meaning to mend, but never got round to because they were in my smaller sizes, so hardly worth doing when I was at my biggest.
But, I can now get back into them, so have got the needle and thread out and got to work, so now have 3 more skirts as part of classic work suits that I can wear for work
All for a cost of 40p for the thread, and some concentration for a couple of hours :TSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

When I was in my teens I did loads of sewing - making my own clothes, even ballgowns .....but it is a bit of a chore nowadays and tends to get left.I can never even manage to thread the needle!
I did leave my glasses at work, which made that particular job rather tricky! Got there in the end though!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Seeing as we're posting valuable thoughts/stories I thought I'd add my personal favourite, I did post it in my diary a long long time ago but its one of those I keep going back to whenever this mse journey feels never-ending, hope you like it xxLessons From Geese:
-
As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation the whole flock adds 71% more range than if each bird flew alone.
-
When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into the formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
-
When a goose tires it rotates back in the formation and another goose flies to the point position.
-
The geese flying in formation "honk" to encourage those up front to keep up with their speed.
-
When a goose gets wounded, sick or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.

Hi Hypno
Lovely to hear you are gettiing into those 'tight' skirts.
My mum was an avid sewer and actually used to make a little bit of pocket money on the side stitching things for people. I had some 'lovely' home-made frilly dresses that I loved at the time. Shame they were never kept. The sad thing was that although I occassionaly showed interest, I never learned. I am left handed and mum and I struggled with knitting and sewing. She also had an industrial machine which meant I was never allowed to have a play on it.
Mum bought me a machine for my graduation. I have used it a bit but never really mastered it. The local college has classes and I plan to sign up next year. So, while OH is at the footie next year, I will be learning how to sew and knit.
Wedding plans are still stressful - everyone NOW has an opinion. Not when I was asking for advice:mad:. Oh well - I just need to remember to remain calm and know that I have organised the day and it is for me and OH to enjoy.
