Best lasting chewing toys for dogs and MSE Dog toys please.

Well, yesterday I spent £50 on toys for the dog to keep her occupied while I am out and already £30 worth have aready been anhaliated.

Please can anyone suggest some really good chew toys as I am not going to buy anymore otherwise. She has really strong jows. Even the stuff they promise as being 'tough' is actually rubbish and she rips them awart within an 5 minutes. It is so depressing, i want her to have some toys but it I just might as well burn money the amount we have spent on them.

I have some ropes and a kong, these seem OK but she will not chew the kong unless it has something inside. If I play toys with her she will take them off and chew them.

All suggestions gratefully accepted as it is costing me a fortune!! Thank you :D

I have a tyre toy and although mine isn't a heavy chewer it seems very sturdy. You can tie a bit of rope around it and throw it too :)

Maybe approach it from a training point instead and whenever she starts to chew something then swap it for a kong or a nylabone or something that she is allowed to chew?

When I go out my pup is left with a kong and a nylabone - I don't want to end up leaving anything that she might choke on :S

Mine just have nylabones and kongs, I do have a few rope toys as well but they don't last long and leave nice little strings drapped around the house.

    nylabone.

try the 'powerful' chewer, and get a size larger than recommended.

there is also a sporn marow bone which seems to work - very similar to a nylabone.

there is an end in sight though- it took until my dog was about 20 months to stop being a voracious chewer. she still has a nibble every now again, but usually they are at least usually on the nylabones now!

i also found that solid rubber toys work well for non chewing games - especially solid rubber balls instead of normal tennis balls, and rubber hoops for tugs instead of normal rope toys.
  • We have a basket of toys ranging from balls to squeekys, and nylabones to ropes, our dog loves squeeky and will remove either an ear or leg!!!. But once she decides to get the suffing out or go for the destruction then that is it. But she loves rummaging in the box for what she wants. and some are toys she has stolen from the children!!!.

She likes the noise of the squeekys.
Kongs are good or my mum leaves carrotts around to chew for her dogs

Have you tried and rubbed foodstuff in the inside of the kong, we use cheap paste.

Our little cocker is terrible at chewing toys and honestly can demolish a toy quicker than our 2 now departed bull terriers ever could.

The stronger Nylabones and kongs are all that mutt can have - too much of a power chewer so it's not safe to give her anything else. Have you seen the kongs that dispense food - not tried it, but it looks like it'd keep a dog occupied for a bit. Or the kong bouncer types things that the dog can play with and not just chew.
Having said they, they're not indestructible, but should keep you going for a few months.
I actually found that the black extreme kong didn't last as long as some of the others - mutt regarded it as a challenge and it left marks all over the carpet.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

LOL, we could have the same dog!! She loves sqeaky toys so much.

I would have to, at this minute, recommend the kong squeaky tennis balls, costs around £3 for a pack of 3 but they (so far, touch wood) have been very good and she pouts them in her mouth and squeaks on them, so far none have been chewed....

Thanks for the replies everyone. I bought some of the kong paste - which was hideously expensive but I needed it to stop her crying when I went out so I was prepared to pay. I'll get the paste next time though/

I'll get some nylabones next time, they seem to be the things everyone is recommending. I do have the treats for the kong as well - I got the larged size one.

you dont have to use kong paste for kongs - you can put peanut butter or cream cheese in it.

amber's favourite recipe is peanut butter, dog food soaked in water for an hour, treats, and then peanut butter to seal it up. we then freeze it over night and it takes her a good hour to get through it in the morning.

cleverclogs though realised that if you throw the thing on the floor chunks fall out, so we have to make sure that nothing ornamental is around!

i know some people also but in banana. if you have a search on the internet you should find kong recipes.

That is great, thanks. Never even figured I could stick something else in it.
