Just got back from the CAB

Spent 30 minutes on the phone with a helpful guy in the Dudley CSA office. Yes, he did say they do recommend that we find the money elsewhere - loans etc - and then we can repay over lower terms (to the loaner, not to the CSA!)

However, after further talking, he admitted that this amount wasnt even over a 2 year period, and that yes they can accept repayment of arrears at greater than 2 years, but only at the approval of a manager - the same managers who push to go straight in at 40%

My caseworker will be phoning me within 48 hours to discuss it

Will let you all know, and hopefully you'll see it in amongst the irrelevant posts by the trolls and haters :)

To all the people who deal with the CSA by telephone....DON'T.

Simply write to them by registered letter informing them you are unhappy with the manner in which you are contacted i.e. they call you asking for personal info about you and your kids to verify who YOU are, shouldn't it be the other way round?

Inform them you will only deal with them by letter from now on. This way it gives you time to decide what you want to say without being rude or aggressive or more to the point without them being rude and aggressive. It also makes them more aware of the information they are giving you and whether it is factual or not.

I have dealt with many rude people at the CSA but I wouldn't blame individuals. I would blame the system they have to operate by. It's clear they are extremely stressed, over worked, under staffed and underpaid. I have minimised any aggression or stress by only communicating with them by letter. Oddly enough most of the information they give me now is actually factual!!!
