But the usual route of sending in a list of your income and expenses, and suggesting a reasonable repayment wont work with them?

You could but they dont take into account debt, bills, rent/mortgage etc.Its just 15% off your total pay, plus more if paying off arrears.
You could offer them an amount for paying off the arrears but they will no doubt throw it back in your face if you say about £100 a month when just now they are asking for £377. They might accept about £250
  • I recently got the old "pay up on your arrears or its DEO spiel" from these chumps.I was polite, reasonable and even swallowed my pride and begged that it wasnt doable and there demands would send me under.Which they would.
The best of it is I only accrued arrears because of there incompetence,I told them they could whistle as I was going to see my MP.

Which I duly did,and after his intervention im now able to pay back the arrears at a reasonable level.Still a lot,and still a struggle, but I had visions of having to move back home, jacking in work, etc etc.In desperate times, all sorts of things run through your mind,as you try to see a way out.

In my experience there a total waste of time and space.Rude, unhelpful, uncaring staff, who do everything to bully and threaten you to pay up.No concern for your situation.Nothing.As far as they are concerned, your just another scum NRP on the make.

Well stand your ground mate,go see you MP.It might not come to anything, but you will def feel better for doing something.Im afraid "reasonable" and "CSA" do not go together.
Had that failed I was ready to put a formal complaint in,which has steps but they have to listen.

These clowns think you can live on fresh air! Wouldnt it be great if the folk who decide how much is acceptable to live on (who no doubt earn tens of ££££ a year) had to do so themselves for a few months, you feel the law would swiftly change then!

Its a rotten system and very much steeped against the NRP.Fight back mate, and dont let em finish you off.Good luck.

Question here is, how can you complain about paying arrears.?. If you paid what you owed in the first place you wouldn't be in a mess would you.

Not everything is black and white.I ended up in arrears through no fault of mine, there incompetence, which is why they had to back down. Not a leg to stand on.

You should get a job at the CSA,with your hardline no sympathy outlook, you would be perfect!

As you said their fault and they backed down, which i take to mean it is now sorted. Most people however do everything they can to avoid paying. When the csa do catch up and start to recover the money owed they get no amount of "Ohhhh i am gonna be skint, can't afford to live" sob stories. The thing these people forget is they are in that position because they put themselves in that position.

OK you say it was a mix up on their part which caused you to fall into arrears. Fair enough, mistakes happen, but 90% of them (just my guess) arn't mistakes, yhey are caused by people doing everything they can to avoid paying.

Sorry you must be new on these forums .

Start reading more into posts before jumping in and presuming .

e.g. some people didn't even know they had a csa case and racked up £000's of arrears .
CSA taking 3 years to do an assesmnt

    List is endless

Why do you think so many cases are won at appeals and tribunals ?

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt as you are new to these boards but please read the forum rules - found at the top in the header and please take note of the most important one : PLEASE BE NICE TO ALL MONEYSAVERS.

As has been fairly said nothing is black and white especially with the CSA, there are PWC's and NRP's on this board and all have very strong feelings about their children and the CSA. There is no right or wrong and we are all here to help each other, in the main we manage it, on the odd occasion it all spills out into name calling and I have to get the waggy finger out.

There are many many NRP's on here who pay their full share in some cases without baing able to see their children, just as there are some who do try to avoid paying but please do not tar all of them with the same brush.

I have to assume from your post that you have never had any issues with the CSA? I am a parent with care and I have to tell you that 90% of the mistakes that have been made on my case have been because the CSA have failed to qualify statements or have failed in their duty of care.

Can I suggest that you read some of the threads on here, to get a flavour of the boards, if you have any questions please feel free to ask, we are all a pretty friendly bunch in the main.

  • Orville,

Gawd help us if you were in charge.

let me quote you an example

June 2004 Assessment completed said my payments needed to go up by £120 a month backdated 12 months.

2 days later a new assessment reduced it by £1 from the original figure, but this was from the date the assessment completed.

So I ended up with a "magic" £1400 of arrears, add in the other "arrears" where I paid her cash then she told the CSA I wasn't paying.

Many NRP's end up with huge arrears through no fault of their own.

and for anyone who's interested I'm still paying arrears at £69 a month after nearly 6 years despite calculating I paid this off in April last year, so they will sometimes listen
 I've paid the CSA off and stopped them taking payments:beer:
I'm stillowed some arrears by my ex

I was a NRP, now I'm a PWC, partner of a PWC, and parent of a PWC ( and very confused at times )

If they ever pursue getting the arrears back of the precious PWC :)
