getting around orlando

what do you think is best.....with or without...
WITH all day long. Probably OK for Disney, Universal, Sea World without a car but for other places so much easier. 5 of you that works out at £4-£5 a day per person for your own transportation , plus a bit for petrol but would get you to and from the Airport plus all your planned visits and visits to shops etc. Florida really is geared up for the car and practically all the cars are automatic, so just press the pedal and go.0 -
thanks again, and i will defo post when i come back how it all went, no one is really confident enough to drive, where we come from some of the roads are single file only (i kid you not!)
transfers to and from hotel were covered in the price of the holiday and we are staying in a hotel on I Drive with a free shuttle service to the parks,
maybe it is going to be a lot different than i expect, distance to parks etc, (though we are near sure we wont be in the disney parks) though i have never been to orlando before, i have been to USA 6 times and never hired a car, we wont plan on hiring one, but see how it goes, will update when i get back, thanks again,0 -
Having lived in the US for over three years and 5 months of that in Orlando I can assure you that you'd be absolutely barking mad not to make use of a car.
You'd spend a good proportion of a holiday relying on others/waiting for public transport/paying massively over what a car would cost you.
Life is geared towards having a car in the US for practically everything, certainley not for catching buses unless in a small confined city which tourist Orlando/Florida is not.
Out of interest why are none of the party willing to drive? Driving in the US is soooo easy compared to Europe/UK.0 -

we are scared to:eek:0 -
I've no doubt the holiday will be good without a car, but with one it could be so much better. Each to their own.
Must be a female thing

Don't worry, you aren't alone

I'd be flippin' terrified!
Obviously having a car would be more convenient and make outlying areas much more accessible but I'm sure you'll have a fab holiday without one
never being there before maybe i am thinking of it all wrong, i really think that most things we will be doing will be either in Universal Studios, IOA, or on I Drive, and the only things we will be travelling to is the Arabian Knights show and the Space centre, maybe i have it so wrong, but i will make the most of it, and maybe go back sometime, with a car, if i feel brave enough! thanks again0 -

The 1st time I drove abroad was in Florida about 6years ago, and it was initially nervy but the roads are totally different out there, far bigger and wider and it felt a lot slower movin, well apart from the odd muppet brit who thought the speed limit didnt apply to them
.
I dont think we would have got half as much out of florida as we did without a car, for instance I enjoy shopping and the thought of only sticking to I drive and then lugging all the bags around with us is'nt my idea of fun.
As previously mentioned orlando is more spaced out than a lot of people realise and I enjoyed the ability to jump in a car and go rather than wait for transport in the searing heat.
Each to their own though, how about once you are there you suggest hiring a car for one day and see how they get on and if they dont like it then your wont have lost much.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
i may do that, can you hire a car for just one day? stupid question that, im sure u can,
i think its the bigger, wider roads that scare us so much, like i say our roads here are either single file, one lane in each direction or at most, even most of the motorways, 2 lanes in each direction, do go from that, to maybe 6 lanes...
though how would be go about getting insurance over there, is that not something you need to sort with your own company before you leave?0
