We have similar income and a £950 mtg. we have one son who was in full time childcare. You'll get around £80 pm child benefit and £40 child tax credit (more in the first year). Do it!

We will only be having one son as the increased costs that one child in breakfast club/afterschool club and another at nursery would be too much for us....

Hard choice for not only you but everyone. It is actually said easier than done. These two things are very important in one's life and if I were you, I want a baby first.

A child is a life ,totally life changing and you will forever be a parent and no longer be the most important people in your own lives .
A house is an object ,no comparison ?
If you want a child ,start trying not ,your already getting on a bit ,don't leave it any longer or you could regret it for the rest of your life !

Look at it this way ....your laying on your death bed after what is hopefully a long and fun filled happy life but what are your last thoughts ?
I am so glad I bought that house and I hope it will be safe or
I am so blessed to have had my kids ,hope they live happy fulfilled lives ?
