Great stuff, thanks for the post. My mind is totally made up on the Hero now. As you say, browsing experience is key to me, hence going for this phone. In terms of newer tech e.g. the Desire, well, isn't it always the case that there's something newer and shinier just round the corner?.. :)

A general question, you may know the answer.. If I am to drop from £35pm to £15pm, will I start paying £15pm straight away, or will this kick in only after my existing £35 contarct elapsed (mid April)? I ask this, as if I am to start paying £15pm straight away, I won't mind paying the £15 for the phone, as I will save this cost over the next 30 days.

i think the £15 would start when your current contract ends which is mid april,

    Hi all,

Contract with Orange is up next month. I gave them a call and was instantly offered the following (I did not go through to retentions) :-

    400xnetwork minutes
    Unlimited texts
    Unlimited internet
    Laptop dongle
    HTC Hero

One off payment of £15 for the phone, £15pm inc. VAT.

I will certainly ask them to knock off the one off payment before I agree to the deal, but any other advice?

Is it a good offer in your opinion?
Would retentions be able to offer me a better deal (not that I see much wrong in this one)?
Worth hanging on for the Hero perhaps?
Is there a chance, if I went to other networks, that they would beat this deal?

    Cheers in advance.

This is an AMAZING Deal in my opinion. I'd bite their hand off. Im with 3g and my contract is up soon, and the best they have offered me is the HTC on a 24 month contract exactly the same but with 100 more minutes, for £25 a month. Total cost=£600 ;-(

    Your total cost £270...amazing deal

my orange contract officially runs out 15th april 2010. currently on £25 per month, 300 mins, unlimited texts, and they wanted me to pay 60 quid to upgrade for the next contract. so i phoned up and said i was thinking of leaving, have come out the other end paying £15 a month, free kick !!! phone, 200 mins (i use 25 on average) unlimited texts, unlimited internet, free picture messaging and 18 month contract stead of 24 month. great success!! certainly better than what they wanted me to do. they have a personalised "budget" of what they can give you, so just keep pushing it, i did, they were gonna give up at the unlimitd texts, but i kept pushing got the internet, pic messages and shorter contract. love it.
