Orange/HTC Hero/£15pm - advice needed
Options
Hi all,
Contract with Orange is up next month. I gave them a call and was instantly offered the following (I did not go through to retentions) :-
400xnetwork minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited internet
Laptop dongle
HTC Hero
One off payment of £15 for the phone, £15pm inc. VAT.
I will certainly ask them to knock off the one off payment before I agree to the deal, but any other advice?
Is it a good offer in your opinion?
Would retentions be able to offer me a better deal (not that I see much wrong in this one)?
Worth hanging on for the Hero perhaps?
Is there a chance, if I went to other networks, that they would beat this deal?
Cheers in advance.

18 months. Sorry, should have said.0

Looks like a good deal. Defo look into getting them to waive the one off charge. Generous minutes, and texts & internet are brilliant. Good deal. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Cheers Bowling. I see you're an HTC fan, going by your sig
So I won't be missing out you think, getting a Hero instead of a Desire?0 -
sounds a great deal to me! I've just cancelled my contract with 02 & was considering their Simplicity sim smartphone thing & buying my own phone. But this sounds better! What contract were you on b4 (if u dont mind me asking!)0

also....re the laptop dongle. Is that dongle thrown in foc for you to 'top up'. Or is that part of contract & has certain allowance included?0
-
I was on Dolphin 35 plan, paying £35pm.
Having phoned them back to accept the deal, they then could not throw in the laptop dongle if the £15 one off charge were to be dropped. He said he can see what he can do for me, and get to me tomorrow. Thing is, now I have been offered the dongle, I quite fancy it - but still don't want to pay the £15. I will see what they say tomorrow.0 -

So I won't be missing out you think, getting a Hero instead of a Desire?
The Hero is quite an old model, and the CPU is a lot lesser, speed-wise, than that of the Desire, but obviously the Desire will cost a lot more.
I'm currently running a certain Windows Mobile-based device with a 1GHz Snapdragon Processor, and I must say, comparing to previous HTC devices I have owned, you really can tell the difference. Although, from my little Android knowlege, I know it is a less resource-hungry OS than Windows Mobile, so you may not notice the slow processor that much.
The Hero does have a highly-rated web browsing experience, with the multi touch capabilities - so you will be able to put the unlimited data to good use.
All round, a good phone and IMO not worth getting a desire just yet - wait for them to come down in price. If they do come down in price before your contract is up, then just sell the Hero, and buy a Desire and swich the SIM cards over. Simples! The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
