You can open another account, you just need all new details, bank acocounts etc. They may well link the two and there is some doubt on the community boards as to whether they will allow the second account to trade as a private account, it is worth noting though that they often don't link accounts at first it can take months so you may think it has worked out OK only to be closed down later. However even if they do then you have some very strict listing caps on a new account so will be severely limited in what you can sell.

An update - I've opened another private account - all seems to be going well at the mo and of course, now we have the 100 free listings per month I will stay under that.

On a slightly different note - does anyone know if the listings on free listing day count as part of your 100 free listings - or is it only 99p free listings that are counted per month? Doesn't seem to make that clear anywhere.

As a new seller you have a resticted listing amount anyway and personally I would keep well under the radar on the new account and not list anywhere near even the 100 'free' ones a month.

As for free listing days the last one was not included in the free listings total as long as you listed at £1 or more. However ebay may well change the rules on each promotion so always read the small print when a FLD is announced. Again as per my first paragraph in a month where there has been free listings I owuld suggest avoiding using many of the 'free' 100 listings as well as you'll just get the upgrade email again.

Well either you are a business and have just made TRS/higher powerseller rate (in which case congrats ).
This will be taken off your seller fees and given once a month, at the end of the month.

Or they've sent you a voucher which you can apply to something you buy to get 20% off.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I get them 20% off things all the time, but never use them, but would be nice if they give me 20% off my seller fees, so will this be given in my invoice at the end of the month? is this what you ar saying? Thanks for getting back to me. Yes a couple of months ago they made me update to buisness seller. Although I wasnt a buisness just selling stuff of my own and what my family and friends from church give me to sell so I can pay gas and electric bills. But e bay told me I could nt selll anymore until I updated, so I guess a buisness seller must of reported me I dont rightly know. But now if I see anything in shops in the sale I buy and put on e bay, some sell for more, some less, swings and roundabouts I guess, as long as I pay my household bills thats all I do it for really.

If you're buying stuff from the shops and then putting it on ebay to sell you are a business, and should be paying tax.

I think you might have to accept it by ticking a box or clicking a link or something, but yep, they'll give you 20% off every month.
(Not the listing fee, just the final value one)
You also get a rosette badge on your listings and in search results. :rotfl:

As mirko says you are a business if you buy to sell.
I doubt anyone reported you though, to be honest- ebay has automated systems now. Still it would be best to correctly register with HMRC if you haven't already, the taxman has scary powers. ;)

No as I said I wasnt a business just selling odd things of my own and what freinds gave me to pay for my bills, but now that they have made me upgrade I do buy stuff in to sell as I am classed as a buisness now, and have spread sheets of what I pay and what I recieve for the tax man. So obviously dont get as much now. But thank you so much for your info.x

Mirko u sound as if Im trying to get away with things, look on my listings and see if you see lots of new things, u will find the odd thing with tags thats all, I sell 2nd hand clothes what friends and family plus my own things thats all. Im not doing anything illegal I have spread sheets for tax man. I can sleep at nite time lol.x
  • I'm experiencing the very same problems. This year, for the first time, when I got to listing the tenth item (good quality clothing that my kids have outgrown) I was asked to register as a business. Having met everyone of ebays listed criteria to exempt me from needing a business account to remain a private seller, I applied to ebay for business exemption but have been refused. No explanation provided and I've just spent half an hour talking with someone from ebay who did not make that decision and does not know why that decision was reached but thinks it maybe because I was selling branded clothing, shock horror!

Registering as a business seller when you clearly are not operating a business would be madness in my eyes and a red rag to the taxman, not that I make a profit when you consider the original purchase price and the later ebay sale.

Obviously I must be Enemy of the Ebay State!
