The private business I reported earlier in the thread are still selling 100s of the same item, I've reported them to ebay 4 times now, but ebay are still allowing them to trade as an individual. Grrrrr.

Report them to HMRC direct, as they have a vested interest in revenue recovery, rather than ebay who could lose revenue from taking action.

And HMRC can, and do, work with just an ebay ID, even if the address/telephone/email details are not displayed.

I've worked hard (most!) of my life and paid my way in taxes and NI. I feel resentful to the pit of my stomach to those who think they can get away without paying their fair way in society, and I have no hesitation in pushing the button or making the phonecall on such matters.

Grass, snitch, rat, I care not for being called these. At least I can sleep at night, and then rightfully take exception to those abusing the system. The more people that do the right thing, the less that we who already do have to subsidise them.

You pay no additional fees for being a business on ebay, the only differene is you can't list for free at 99p.
In fact sell enough and you could even qualify for a discount on FVFs.

The other thing to rememeber is that you must display your full contact details on the auction page and have a refund policy.

Hi, this refund policy when you give a refund do e bay refund what they charge you for selling it, or do you loose out refunding?

If you give a refund, you can do it through the resolution centre on Ebay, for instance, you want to cancel as a buyer has returned for a refund. Go through the prompts and once you make the refund your FVFs are refunded. Likewise the PP payment will refund back the fees paid in the transaction itself.

In theory, a business and private seller are no different, as Ebay/PP dispute process gives a savvy buyer the opportunity to have a full refund within the first 45 days. The only difference with a business seller, is that you MUST stipulate who pays returns postage.

There is a humdinger of a thread starting on the community boards:

    http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1200354541&tstart=0&mod=1275934593750

In a nutshell, a 'private ' seller is objecting to having to pay 10p to list his items once he has reached his 100 limit a month. He states quite happily that he goes out once a week, buys stock and then lists at 99p hoping to make a few pence profit a time.

Hmm, I hope he has a very big tin hat once the regulars start on him.

I've just received an email from ebay telling me to upgrade to a business account.
I am not a business, just clearing out clutter from our family home & family member who recently died. Still got lots to clear out.
Most things sell at their opening bid of 99p, I did take advantge on Sunday when there was the free listing day and list items with a higher start price. Can I appeal?
Life is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.
Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you'll see further.
Take time but don't waste time

There is nothing at all to stop you appealing, however I can't recall having read a single thread yet where a seller has been allowed to stay a private seller once they get the dreaded email.

It looks like you will either need a different venue to sell, or put up your prices to encompass the 10p listing fees on the items.

Is there a time limit that I could chose not to list any items then restart selling again in a couple of months time?
It is very tempting to set up another account, are they able to tell?

Not listing is rather ppintless as the moment you do try and list you'll find you have bene upgraded to a business account anyway.

You can open another account, you just need all new details, bank acocounts etc. They may well link the two and there is some doubt on the community boards as to whether they will allow the second account to trade as a private account, it is worth noting though that they often don't link accounts at first it can take months so you may think it has worked out OK only to be closed down later. However even if they do then you have some very strict listing caps on a new account so will be severely limited in what you can sell.
